Decorate Your Wedding Using Your Common Interests

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009 - Posted by Jill Evans

Common Interest Creates A Wedding Theme

I know a great couple who both absolutely love Mickey Mouse. He was an illustrator and she was a school teacher. They both were very young at heart, so when it came time to decorate for their wedding, they couldn’t resist including their favorite character in the decorations.

Their arch was decorated with flowers and in the center, the flowers were in the shape of Mickey Mouse. They had theme stickers subtly hidden on candelabras, in flower arrangements and other decorations. Their bridesmaids and groomsmen had Mickey Mouse stickers included in their bouquets and boutonnieres.  Mickey was every where. It worked for this couple’s wedding. I think it’s an idea that would work for others, who share a love of the same hobby, sports team, etc.

Making Your Common Interest Theme Work For Your Wedding

Let’s say you and your hubby-to-be are St. Louis Cardinal fans. You could incorporate a small red cardinal bird (that you can find at craft stores) in flower arrangements, pew bows, arches, on candelabras, on the flower girl’s basket—anywhere! It can be done in a very tasteful way. Being subtle is the key.

If you wanted to have some fun with it, you could tell your guests (maybe through the wedding program) how many birds representing your love of the Cardinals are in the decorations. See who can find the most. At the wedding reception, you could poll everyone to see who found the most and give a nice gift to that guest. No matter what the common interest, you can use it to reflect your unique style through your wedding decorations.

An A+ for Teacher's Wedding Reception

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009 - Posted by Jill Evans

Recently, I heard of an elementary school teacher who was getting married and invited her class of first graders to the wedding. She not only invited them, but she made sure they would enjoy the wedding reception, too.

She went all out on a special food table filled with some really creative foods that kids enjoy. There were heart-shaped peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, fruit roll-ups lined up like soldiers on a silver platter, a fruit centerpiece filled with fun-shaped melons, apple and orange slices, strawberries and grape kebabs. There were also kid-friendly chicken nuggets with a variety of dipping sauces, and ants on a log (celery sticks smeared with peanut butter with raisins on top). A local bakery had made schoolhouse shaped cookies decorated with icing for a sweet treat. She even had small cartons of milk on ice in a silver punch bowl.

But she didn’t stop there. There were tables specifically for the students and their parents to sit, decorated with their school colors—green and gold. Wedding favors were at each place and included pencils, crayons, notepads and other school supplies wrapped up in cellophane bags tied with green and gold ribbons.

It struck me how much this teacher had really thought of her students and wanted them to have fun and feel welcome on her most special day. I’m sure each of those children will never forget that teacher or her wedding day.

Use Photos as Wedding Decorations

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009 - Posted by Jill Evans

I’ve been to many weddings where the wedding begins with an endless PowerPoint presentation depicting the lives of the bride and groom from infancy. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love a trip down memory lane, but it seems to start the wedding off on a "down" note.

I think it would be a great alternative to choose 10-20 photos of the bride and groom, frame them, and use them as a wedding decoration at the entrance to the wedding. It would accomplish the same purpose (without all the tissues!) by giving the wedding guests a pictorial trip down memory lane.

For a really clean, contemporary look, you could have all the photos copied in black and white. Then, frame them all in simple, silver frames. These could be different shapes and sizes, but the color would give them uniformity. They could all be placed on a long table covered in a crisp, white tablecloth, so that nothing detracts from the photos themselves. Depending on the style of the wedding, you could choose frames that fit that style for a cohesive look.

I like this idea because it forces the bride and groom to choose the best photos of their lives—the ones that really depict each stage of their lives, rather than just using all their photos to fill up space in a multimedia presentation.

If a PowerPoint presentation is something the bride and groom really want to include, this could be used at the wedding reception, where the atmosphere is more casual and relaxed.

Help! I Need A Wedding Cake Bakery In Fort Smith, AR!

Sunday, July 26th, 2009 - Posted by Brynn Jackson

Ask The Celebration Advisor: You probably get this a lot but I just moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas to be closer to my sister who moved here when she got engaged. I'm helping her plan the wedding. We don't have a clue where to find a bakery that will make her wedding cake quickly. Are there any here? ~ Molly

The Celebration Advisor: Molly, Fort Smith is loaded with incredible wedding cake bakeries! Decide what type of cake you want and the rest is easy as pie…er…wedding cake.

Fort Smith AR bakeries have been making some of the state's best wedding cakes for as long as anyone can remember. Whether your sister wants a large wedding cake or something smaller, there's a bakery in Fort Smith for her. If she wants a fun flavor or something whimsical she's also in luck! If she can dream it, Fort Smith wedding cake bakeries can create it.

Fort Smith is positioned in the part of Arkansas where several major towns are within reach. Even if she has to go outside Fort Smith to somewhere like Bentonville, she'll be able to find the wedding cake of her dreams.

Just a suggestion, try talking with the future in-laws (if they've lived there for a while) about who they think should make the wedding cake. This will be helpful information for your sister, a great way to get you both more involved with her new family, and a fun way to make her new in-laws feel like a part of her wedding. All of this simply from asking where to find Fort Smith's best wedding cake bakery!

It's pretty much on the top of every romantic bride's list of dream weddings. Renting a horse drawn carriage and riding it through Central Park is something no woman would refuse. Newlyweds in New York City, New York are so lucky to have the opportunity to live out this fairytale dream!

Going To The Chapel In A Horse Drawn Carriage

Rolling Romance In The Back of A Horse Drawn Carriage

You glide across the streets, through parks, and around New York's most romantic places in the back of a horse drawn carriage. Even the driver seems to be part of a magical moment made just for the two of you. What intimate date could be better than a horse drawn carriage ride through New York City?

San Francisco Trolly? Nah! Try A Horse Drawn Carriage Ride!

Saturday, July 25th, 2009 - Posted by Brynn Jackson

Oh sure, it's traditional to ride the trolly when you're in San Francisco, California. But honestly, who among this generation's party and wedding planners are that traditional? Things are shifting and one of the cool ways that San Francisco is adapting to modern trends is by offering non-traditional wedding transportation.

Sound entertaining? Probably not. BUT…how can you say no to a horse drawn carriage ride? Imagine how silly all of those people look on the trollies. They're going with the flow. They're doing what you're expected to do in San Francisco. You're going against the flow and doing what is entertaining, invigorating and attention grabbing. Go you!

Plus, you can't roll up to your wedding in a trolly! Ok, some clever person will plan their wedding at a trolly depot or something but most of the time your San Fran wedding will not be at a location that is readily accessible via trolly. On the plus side, most places in San Francisco are accessible by horse drawn carriage!

Imagine riding up to your wedding in a horse drawn carriage driven by a man in snappy dress with a peppier attitude. Forget limos. Forget trollies. Forget cars. Unless you absolutely must battle the hills in something motorized, live it up with horse drawn carriage rides!

Oh, and don't forget about those rocking San Francisco parties. Renting a horse drawn carriage is a great way to make your showy entrance also. Whether a wedding or party, hosting or attending, arrive in style in a horse and carriage.

Little Rock Shines For Wedding Cakes Also!

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009 - Posted by Brynn Jackson

I recently read Rob discuss birthday cakes for people in Little Rock, Arkansas. However, Little Rock shines for more than just their birthday cakes. Local bakeries in The Rock also make some to-die-for wedding cakes. How do I know? Glad you asked!

Living only a few hours away, I've been to many weddings in Little Rock. What stood out and what still stands out from each is the wedding cake. I've tasted so many different varieties of wedding cakes that it's almost easy to tell the bakeries apart. I've tried buttercream and fondant icings. I've had tall wedding cakes, short ones, skinny ones, fat ones and the whole gammut in between.

Why Little Rock AR Wedding Cakes Are So Special

I've been to many other weddings across the country and I can honestly say that I've never put a better wedding cake in my mouth than a few I've tried in Little Rock. It's not just because I'm an Arkansan that I find my tastes to be biased. It's simply because Little Rock bakeries who specialize in wedding cakes put the most heart into their products. They want you to feel what they felt when making it.

They want you to taste the passion that surrounds you at the wedding. They want your tongue to experience the blissful flavor of life that just can't be escaped. Little Rock wedding cake bakeries have a grasp on what it takes to make the perfect wedding cake bar none. If that sounds good for your palette, wet your whistle with some champagne and wash down a piece of the city's best kept secrets.

What Type of Wedding Cake Is Popular In Baton Rouge?

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009 - Posted by Brynn Jackson

Ask The Celebration Advisor: I live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I'm getting married here but I'm not from here so I have no idea what to expect when I go to pick out my wedding cake. What kind of wedding cakes do people like around here? Thanks ~ Geneva

The Celebration Advisor: First of all, congratulations on your wedding Geneva! How exciting! As far as popular wedding cakes in Baton Rouge go, your best bet is to go with what you like. That sounds a little generic, I'm sure, but I'd actually advise any bride to go with her gut first. For example, you may be crazy about carrot cake but it's not very popular in Baton Rouge. If that's the case, go with what you want and give your guests a thrill because it's a rarity at local weddings. Everyone wins. *smile*

If you're thinking more along the lines of popular flavors of wedding cakes for Baton Rouge LA brides, here are some ideas to consider:

  • French culture is big in Baton Rouge LA so go with rich, creamy icings such as vanilla buttercream.
  • Think French Vanilla cake or icing. It's a warmer scent and a more sensual flavor.
  • Traditional wedding cake flavors such as white, golden butter, chocolate and confetti are popular.

It's Baton Rouge so play off of the atmosphere of the city that most people instantly think of. As Baton Rouge is one of the larger southern cities, you can play off of southern heritage and find a Baton Rouge bakery willing to make a wedding cake with an antebellum feel. You can play off of the French heritage and go with something more decadent. Whatever you choose, make sure to make it yours. It's your wedding so have fun with it and go with what your gut–or rather your tummy–tells you.
