Video Game Tournament For Teenagers

July 23rd, 2008 - Posted by Jamie Adams

As a dad of 15 year old boy, I wanted to give my son a congratulations party for having such good grades ( all A’s in advanced curriculum). Knowing how he enjoys playing video games, I decided a Guitar Hero tournament party would be suitable. I felt I could handle 15-18 teenagers at this video game party. I rented 1 extra game player at my local video game rental store, to go with the one we already had.

For decorations, I decided we would need chrome streamers, which I located at a party supply store. I hung the streamers down like a curtain by using a dowel rod. To do this I drilled two holes in to each end so it could hang from the ceiling of our garage. This made a great background on the wall and set the stage (so to speak).

My idea was for the guys to all put their names in a pot and 4 players would be called up at a time to play. I set the tournament up in two brackets, A and B. As players won they would go in their respected bracket till a winner was declared in each bracket; then the two remaining brackets winners competed against each other till the winner was declared.

The kids loved it and I must admit it went easier then I had expected. We had a local pizza joint cater the affair with plenty of pizza and soft drinks. Lucky for me, my wife remembered to order a cake in the shape of a guitar. For a quick congratulations party, a video game theme worked really well for us.
