The cool breeze at your back, smell of freshly-grilled BBQ and the sea of team-colored jerseys could only mean one thing, football season!  Fire up those grills and pack those coolers full, because its time for tailgating!  Don't make your next tailgate a drab, fire it up with these four tailgating tips to make your game day a huge success.

Plan Ahead

A little simple planning can go a long way by setting aside ten minutes to decide what's on your tailgate agenda.  Decide what food, decorations and party supplies you'll need for the big game day.  If you're going to the game, remember to pack a large table for food and supplies, store food in plasticware containers for easy access and bring clean up supplies.  Are you going to make this a full out bash at home?  Send football-inspired invitations.  You can easily find personalized invitations online or make them yourself.  Add that tailgating feel in your very own backyard by setting up your lawn chairs, decorations, tables, food and games.  Also, check out your local party supplier for those essential gameday accessories for an easy setup.  Planning ahead will make your gameday a cinch.

Game Day Decorations

A tailgate wouldn't be complete without your favorite teams colors!  Purchase plates, napkins, tablecloths and cups in your team's colors to spice it up and let people know who you're cheering on.  Add a team flag or handmade sign to your tailgating area too.  If you're watching from home, add banners, string lights or football-themed decorations.  Finding decorations is easy by checking out a local party decoration store or even making them yourself.  Any decoration is sure to bring team spirit.  Another big part of decorations is you!  Get decked out in your team's  jersey, sport a team hat or even paint your face.  Fun and creative decorations will turn your tailgate into a touchdown!

End Zone Entertainment

With hours to spare before the big game, why not get yourself pumped up with a little entertainment.  Set up the radio to listen to the pregame show and don't forget to bring a set of washers, horseshoes, bean bag, ladder ball, deck of cards or just toss the football back and forth.  It'll help pass time before the big game and bring  a little rivalry fun with opposing fans.  Whatever the entertainment choice, it'll help you get pumped up for the big game!

GAME IDEAS

Washers – This game consists of two teams, some washers and two boxes with a can or cup in the middle.  The two teams stand about 20 feet away from each other and take turns tossing washers for points.  Toss the washer into the box for one point and into the can for three points.  This is a fun outdoor game!

Bean Bag Toss – Players take turns tossing bean bags onto a fun decorative board with a hole cut in it.  Toss it in the hole and it's worth three points and on the board is worth one.  The first player to 21 wins!

Ladder Ball – This multiplayer game consists of taking 3 ball bolas (A piece of rope with a ball tied to each end) and a ladder consisting of three steps worth different points.  Each player stands about 15 feet away and tosses their bola towards the ladder to try and wrap it around the top, middle or bottom step.  Again, each step is worth different points and the first player to 21 or wins!

The Main Attraction, Food!

Whether you're in the action of it all at the game or in the comforts of your own home, food is what makes a tailgate a hit! The smell of grilled hamburgers and hot dogs are essential to any tailgate, but jazz them up a little bit by creating a burger bar.  It'll give tailgaters the chance to create the classics or try something new.

Get creative by making a football-shaped cheese ball or a football field cake; or warm up those chilly days with a crock pot full of chili, warm dips and hot wings.  And if you want to save a little cash, then make it a potluck!

But why not go all out and hire a local party caterer for your tailgate.  They're sure to provide delicious  food and make your day stress free.  You can also create a sports-themed cake, custom cupcakes or even create a replica of your team's mascot; tailgaters will be amazed by your team spirit.  Check out your local bakery for your next sports inspired themed cake.  Turn any basic tailgate food into a memorable treat to represent your team spirit.

With these simple tips, your next tailgate is sure to be a big success!  So get ready to pack your coolers, fire up the grill and throw on that game day attire because your next tailgate is going to be a winning touchdown!

Sure Miss Manners may not approve, but what's wrong with throwing your own birthday party?  In my opinion, not a single thing.  Let's look at all the pro's of throwing your own birthday party.

  1. You know what theme you want.
  2. You know the exact type of cake and food you want.
  3. You know all the people you want at your party.
scooby doo
scooby doo
I could go on, but I think you get the point. It's all about you and what you want, and who better to give you the perfect party than you?

Let me take you through my birthday party, given to me by me! First, the invitations: they are Scooby Doo (yes the cartoon character), which is my party theme. Yes, I know I'm an adult and Scooby Doo  is for children.  However, not if it's what I want.  And I want Scooby Doo. I chose Scobby Doo as my theme based on a few reasons: First – Scooby Doo is a great cartoon character. Second – the year of my birth 1969, was when Scooby Doo first aired.  I plan on having all my guest dress as Scooby Doo characters.

Now for the Scooby snacks. I will have spinach dip with chips and label it Shaggy's dip, Great Dane subs (cold cut sandwiches) and mystery van wings with ac-7 sauce (spicy chicken wings with ranch dip). And of course, I can't forget a huge Scooby and friends cake complete with Velma, Shaggy, Fred and Daphne ….yummy! Did you know they have a cocktail called the Scooby? You can bet that will be mixed and consumed at my Scobby Doo theme party!

Throwing your own party can be easily done, and the ideas translate to many things you might find from your childhood.  Now all I have to do is decide if I want to be Scooby, or do I make a better Scrappy Doo?

Stumped on a theme for your 4 or 5-year old's party?  Throw them an alphabet party! Use every letter of the alphabet from A to Z.  Start off the alphabet party with colorful alphabet invitations. Decorate your party location with all the letters of the alphabet by purchasing alphabet streamers, confetti and other alphabet-themed decorations. Get creative!

You can buy letters and streamers at a party supply store or an office/school supplies store. Don't forget balloons!  Make sure they carry the theme and have letters or the alphabet on them.

Utilize your local bakery for alphabet cupcakes, cookies or crackers.  If you don't want cupcakes, order your child a birthday cake using his or her name.  You can spell out your kid's name or you can use just his initials.

Ask your favorite deli if they will make letter-shaped ham and cheese sandwiches.  If not, you can buy letter cookie cutters and make your own ABC peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

For party favors, buy alphabet flash cards or letter magnets that match the guest's initials. Some party stores have age appropriate, ready-made alphabet party favor boxes.

A great party game is Pin-the-Letter on an item/person, played like the game Pin-the-Tail on the donkey.  Using heavy duty craft paper, cut out the letters of the alphabet.  Have the birthday boy or girl pick a letter out of a box. He or she then has to find something or someone with a name that starts with that letter and "pin" (I suggest using tape) the letter to that object or person.

Wedding and Party Network is a proud sponsor of this children's party theme.

For Savages Bakery, seventy years has come with many changes. The thing that has remained a constant with Savages Bakery is their quality. They have remained the very best bakery in Birmingham Alabama. From the bottom of our hearts, Wedding And Party Network would like to wish everyone at Savages Bakery a very happy 70th anniversary.

Located in the Homewood AL suburb of Birmingham since 1978, there are few people who have not celebrated an occasion with freshly baked delicacies from Savages Bakery. Birthday cakes, wedding cakes, breads, rolls, muffins, cookies, pastries, pies and more have been served fresh and made in-house daily for a homemade taste like none other.

Savages Bakery even has a lunch menu! If you're ever in Homewood Alabama, visit Savages Bakery for lunch and walk away completely full and satisfied. Their menu ranges from sandwiches and sides to salad plates and box dinners. Yum!

What Savages Bakery is best known for is their AMAZING ability to create beautiful wedding cakes, party cakes, birthday cakes and other unique designs. These are not your average cakes, mind you. This Birmingham AL bakery creates works of art. The pastry chefs at this bakery are like Michalangelo with a decorating spatula. They are Renoir with a bag of icing. They are Picasso with the layers of cake.

Savages Bakery is hands-down Birmingham's most artistic bakery ever. Just take a look at their cakes and see for yourself how creative and brilliant their designs are. The best thing, though, is that these are all made to customer specifications. They take what you want and bring back the impossibly beautiful version; one you wouldn't have hoped for in your most colorful dreams. Need a Birmingham Alabama bakery? You'd be cheating yourself not to visit Savages Bakery.

This month Wedding And Party Network is featuring creative baby shower cake photos. These photos are so crisp and clear that they make you want to reach into them and cut off a slice for yourself. If you're in the market for a baby shower cake, grab fresh ideas from these photos!

#5 Pink Baby Shower Cake For Girl

This was actually the baby shower cake for a young lady who works with Wedding And Party Network. We can honestly say that every bite was delicious. One tier of chocolate, one of French vanilla. Mmm.

To make it fitting of a baby shower for a little girl, buttercream icing was used with pink icing accents. A pink rubber ducky, mini bunny slippers and other fun cake decorations were used as well.

#4 Twin Girls Baby Shower Cake

This is a favorite because of the creativity of the baker. Creating a baby shower cake for twin girls can be a challenge but this baker did well! She created a two tiered cake decorated with pink and white frosting.

For emphasis Ana created two cookie suckers and decorated these with pink and white frosting. She spelled out the girls' names on each cookie as well. What a great way to celebrate two new lives!

#3 Green & Yellow Baby Shower Sheet Cake

This adorable baby shower cake is decorated with glittering treats in the shape of a baby bottle, a diaper pin, a green bow, a rubber ducky, a rattle, and a top. This neat baby shower cake is decorated in pale yellow icing with green piping accents.

#2 Animal Baby Shower Cake Featuring Gum Paste Animal Figurines

This animal baby shower cake is one tier of jungle fun for the guests. Gumpaste animal figurines in the shape of a lion, rhinoceros and a stork delivering a baby are used to complete the top tier decorations.

A large second tier is also surrounded with gumpaste figurines in jungle animal shapes. Blue icing is used to decorate the top tier, though pink could be used for a girl. Yellow icing (a very neutral color where babies are concerned) lines each tier beautifully.

#1 Bassinet Baby Shower Cake For A Girl

Bassinet baby shower cakes are very popular. This bassinet party cake took many hours to create and only a few minutes to enjoy.

The details are incredible. The little girl's name (Teryn) is written into the pillow. A teddy bear is placed where the little girl would be cradling it. Most of the cake is covered in a pink blanket made of fondant and touched with frilly accents. This cake is irresistibly sweet in so many ways.

I recently read Rob discuss birthday cakes for people in Little Rock, Arkansas. However, Little Rock shines for more than just their birthday cakes. Local bakeries in The Rock also make some to-die-for wedding cakes. How do I know? Glad you asked!

Living only a few hours away, I've been to many weddings in Little Rock. What stood out and what still stands out from each is the wedding cake. I've tasted so many different varieties of wedding cakes that it's almost easy to tell the bakeries apart. I've tried buttercream and fondant icings. I've had tall wedding cakes, short ones, skinny ones, fat ones and the whole gammut in between.

Why Little Rock AR Wedding Cakes Are So Special

I've been to many other weddings across the country and I can honestly say that I've never put a better wedding cake in my mouth than a few I've tried in Little Rock. It's not just because I'm an Arkansan that I find my tastes to be biased. It's simply because Little Rock bakeries who specialize in wedding cakes put the most heart into their products. They want you to feel what they felt when making it.

They want you to taste the passion that surrounds you at the wedding. They want your tongue to experience the blissful flavor of life that just can't be escaped. Little Rock wedding cake bakeries have a grasp on what it takes to make the perfect wedding cake bar none. If that sounds good for your palette, wet your whistle with some champagne and wash down a piece of the city's best kept secrets.

Ask The Celebration Advisor: I live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I'm getting married here but I'm not from here so I have no idea what to expect when I go to pick out my wedding cake. What kind of wedding cakes do people like around here? Thanks ~ Geneva

The Celebration Advisor: First of all, congratulations on your wedding Geneva! How exciting! As far as popular wedding cakes in Baton Rouge go, your best bet is to go with what you like. That sounds a little generic, I'm sure, but I'd actually advise any bride to go with her gut first. For example, you may be crazy about carrot cake but it's not very popular in Baton Rouge. If that's the case, go with what you want and give your guests a thrill because it's a rarity at local weddings. Everyone wins. *smile*

If you're thinking more along the lines of popular flavors of wedding cakes for Baton Rouge LA brides, here are some ideas to consider:

  • French culture is big in Baton Rouge LA so go with rich, creamy icings such as vanilla buttercream.
  • Think French Vanilla cake or icing. It's a warmer scent and a more sensual flavor.
  • Traditional wedding cake flavors such as white, golden butter, chocolate and confetti are popular.

It's Baton Rouge so play off of the atmosphere of the city that most people instantly think of. As Baton Rouge is one of the larger southern cities, you can play off of southern heritage and find a Baton Rouge bakery willing to make a wedding cake with an antebellum feel. You can play off of the French heritage and go with something more decadent. Whatever you choose, make sure to make it yours. It's your wedding so have fun with it and go with what your gut–or rather your tummy–tells you.

New Orleans is famous for a lot of things but it should be famous for its wedding cake bakeries. New Orleans has the richness of French heritage in its corner, and we all know how famous France is for their desserts. With that being the case, you know that New Orleans wedding cake bakeries will rock your taste buds.

Nevermind the king cake. If you're getting married in New Orleans, all you need is a local bakery and your bar-setting wedding cake is ready in a jif. Whether four tiers of treasured buttercream bliss or a fountain wedding cake flowing from delicious to thrilling, you cannot go wrong with a wedding cake baked by a New Orleans bakery.

Get Lost In The Flavor of New Orleans Wedding Cakes

New Orleans wedding cakes are something to be desired for sure! Wedding cakes are a treasure regardless of the city but there is something special about New Orleans wedding cakes. Every piece is like a little slice of heaven only infused with the richness of flavor and texture that you would expect from the finest French bakeries. Instead of traveling across the seas to find the perfect wedding cake, all you have to do is visit a wedding cake bakery in New Orleans Louisiana! It's that simple. It's that easy.

One taste and you're hooked. One bite and your'e returning to the wedding cake table for another slice. One single solitary whiff of the fresh icing over warm flavored cake and you might as well give up the battle to eat just one piece. After all, who wouldn't want to continue tasting a piece of what are often considered the most scrumptious wedding cakes in Louisiana?
