Sail Away with Me – The Ultimate Destination Wedding Theme
There comes a time in everyone’s wedding planning when you start to think of places you would like your wedding. The church you’ve been going to since birth, the vineyard 20 miles up the road or the land your grandparents own all seem to come into play and are unique to every couple. Well, except one. The beach may seem like a huge hassle for those of you who want to invite 250 people, but for those looking for a destination wedding that grabs the culture of the beach without strangling it, read on.
“Sail Away with Me” was my theme when I wanted a beach wedding at one point in my life, so all these ideas have been laid out to perfectly align together. I know! I know! You’re welcome. Ok, so here were my first thoughts, “I don’t want it to be cheesy.” Same here, sister, no one wants your wedding to be cheesy and that starts out with colors.
Wedding Decor:- Main Colors: Navy and Starch White
- Accent Colors: Anything cream and natural, such as starfish, seashells or pearls. Stay away from reds, or other bright colors to keep the elegance of the navy, white and cream.
- Vases: Big round glass vases in sea glass colors or clear will add height and dimension to your seaside wedding.
- Arrangements: Remember to stick tall dried grass or your favorite summer arrangements in large tall quantities. You could also add smaller vases to even out the area.
- Lanterns: These are a huge obsession of mine and so is the color white. It just makes sense to have white lanterns at your wedding. I found mine at IKEA (made of real glass and they're pretty sturdy) that were pretty budget friendly , but don’t forget to check out TJ Maxx and Marshalls. You can stick seashells in the lanterns or candles depending on the time of day.
- Wooden Arches: They are a huge hit on the beach. They can be white or a natural wood color with sheer white curtains to add to the elegance of your dress.
- Pillows for Chairs: Depending on how formal your wedding will be, the extra expense for chairs may just be a pain. Laying out matching blankets and chairs can send an ambience for your guests to sit back, relax and enjoy the romance.
Reception Decor
- Long Tables: If you are creating your own reception area, I would personally adore long tables. They feel so much more intimate instead of splitting your party into circles. Plus, its way easier to decorate long tables with long runners and garland
- Napkins: Brides can have a field day on napkins even if they are paper. Luckily, I have two suggestions for you. (1) Take grey linen looking cloth napkins and find a stencil that relates to your wedding and simply paint it in blue paint. It can be “LOVE” like the picture below or your new name. If you are using white napkins, simply wrap them in navy and white ribbon and a twig of rosemary adds a touch of your theme, while the rosemary leaves a refreshing scent.
- Seashells: What is something so natural and beautiful in a large abundance at the beach? Seashell! Seashells can be used for candles (Simply, pour wax into the belly of the shell and add a wick.) The seashell candles will be a beautiful hit at your reception table. or under a beautiful coral and candle arrangement! Wouldn’t those scream elegance on your seaside wedding?
Whatever you decide for your beach side wedding, just remember, you are there to relax and enjoy the wedding, but who doesn’t love to plan a delicate and classy wedding? We all do! So enjoy planning your “Sail Away with Me” Destination Wedding!

A beach inspired wedding is such an ideal theme for summertime. If you can't have your dream wedding at the beach, you can easily incorporate elements from the beach into a wedding. Seashells, the color blue, sand and other gorgeous elements from the sea can truly create an unforgettable wedding.
Plan An Intimate Beach Wedding
It's summertime. That means the weather is beautiful, sun is shining and it's a great time to plan a wedding. A wonderful wedding theme to choose for a summer wedding is a beach one. There are lots of wonderful ideas for a beach wedding and a gorgeous location included. So, Wedding and Party Network has some wonderful ideas for a beach wedding that will definitely make yours truly stand out.
Wedding Location – Of course, this is has a simple answer. If it's a beach wedding, it should definitely be on a beach. However, there are tons of different beaches, so which one do you choose? The answer is by researching. Maybe you have a favorite one, or found a beautiful beach resort that has various wedding packages of you have no idea where to begin, the main thing to keep in sight is finding a site that shows off your wedding style.
Wedding Details – There are so many beautiful items you can include in a beach wedding and so many directions you can go in. So, first thing is to figure out what style you want to show off.
What is your personality and what do you like? Take a look at different blogs, wedding magazines, Pinterest and other wedding websites to find a style that you like and inspiration. Whether you're a classical bride, simplistic bride or have a bit of a bohemian twist, the beach is a wonderful place to show off any style.
Once you find your personal wedding style, start planning out the details, which includes your wedding flowers, wedding colors, wedding cake, bridal bouquet and wedding decor. First off, choose your wedding colors, which is definitely in tradition with pastels or even brighter colors. Just stick with your style. Once you've chosen your colors, everything else can fall into place.
Choose your wedding flowers, which if you're having your wedding at a beach, the flowers are very simple, yet make a statement. Even having a gorgeous arch for your wedding ceremony with flowers draping down and petals scattered around for the aisle will definitely make a statement. Just sit down with your florist and tell them your wedding location and the vision you have for your wedding.
Besides flowers, you also want to incorporate other wedding decor into it. You can use elements of the beach like seashells, starfish and even coral. You can incorporate these elements into your reception centerpieces or even use them as pew decor. The coral will definitely make a statement in a centerpiece or even your wedding bouquet. Don't forget to incorporate a bit of sand into your centerpieces as well and place a candle in the center that is surrounded by seashells. You can also add these detail into your wedding cake to complete the look. However, don't forget about the little details that will truly make your wedding unique. For example, set a bucket at the beginning of the aisle for your guests to switch out of their wedges and heels and slip on a pair of flip-flops, which will definitely be beneficial when walking in the sand. You can even use unique textiles to drape around beach totem poles, use starfish to accent the pews with, paper lanterns scattered along the beach for a night wedding, you can offer fans and sunglasses for your guests as favors to add unique features to your beach wedding. However, you can also go with a nautical theme as well by using stripes. Don't forget to take inspiration from the sea for your wedding food too.
The main key is to find inspiration from the beach, sea and ocean. You can truly find inspiration through the colors, serene setting and items found within each one.

Where Can I Find Flowers For A Destination Beach Wedding In Mexico?
Ask The Wedding Guide: I am from Kentucky, and am getting married on Mexico Beach in June and am having trouble locating a florist to make the bouquets for my bridal party. I need bouquets for 4 bridesmaids, 2 jr bridemaids, and 3 flower girls. I would like white daisies and hot pink gerbera daisies. Greenery is ok but i hate babies breath, and I would like them tied with white ribbon. I would like the bouquets to increase in sz from a small nosegay with 1 gerber and a few daisies for the flower girls, to 2 gerbers and more daisies for jrs, and 3 gerbers and more daisies for bridesmaids. I also need 2 corsages for our moms in the same flowers. If anyone knows a good florist I would appreciate the help! Thanks Nicole
Guide's Reply:
If you are using a wedding package provider for the wedding ceremony and reception, contact them and ask them where you can get wedding flowers. They often work with other wedding vendors who provide the services that they don't. If you are coordinating your own wedding, contact the hotel in Mexico where you will be staying and ask for the concierge desk or guest relations agent who can recommend a local and reputable florist. If you are not fluent in spanish, be sure to ask for an email address. This way you can communicate via email and by using babelfish as a translator. Babel fish isn't the best translator but it will help to get the point across.
Where are in Mexico are you getting married? Someone who has been there might have a suggestion.
Congratulations and good luck.
Miami Beach Destination Wedding
Ask the Celebration Advisor: I am planning a destination wedding that will be in Miami Florida where I met my fiance’ while on vacation. Neither of us lives in Florida but we really want a beach wedding. Do you have any wedding tips suggestions for planning a beach wedding in Florida? Thanks, Tanya
The Celebration Advisor: A Miami beach wedding … how exciting! Well Tanya, planning a beach wedding in a city that you are not familiar with can be somewhat of a task. I think the most important and the most resourceful asset to have is a destination wedding planner. It will save you so time and stress to have someone in the area who takes care of getting everything like the wedding flowers, caterers for the reception and rental supplies organized and on time. There are several companies or individuals, especially in beach cities, which offer these services. Some wedding coordinators or beach wedding planners even have a package service, where you can customize all of the parts of your wedding the way you want them, but the price is all inclusive. This makes it easy to not go over budget.
Often you can communicate via internet and phone, sending the coordinator pictures of what you want, songs that you want played, and food that you want served. I would advise that you arrive in Miami a few days before the ceremony to meet with the coordinator and look over the final details.
Also make sure you plan your Florida beach wedding and festivities at a time of year that is ideal for Miami weather. For instance, you would not want to plan the ceremony at peak hurricane season. Your chances of good weather during those couple of months are very slim.
