Christmas Parties With A Twist
Christmas party themes are full of holiday spirit. You see the classic Ugly Sweater parties with the spiked eggnog and the dirty santa gifts. But this year, how about something a little different? Wedding and Party Network has three great ideas to make your Christmas party one to remember.
Lights, Camera, Movie Themed Parties
Draw inspiration from a popular seasonal movie to create a holiday party theme. The Nightmare Before Christmas, for example, can give your Christmas party a Halloween twist. This Not-So-Scary-Christmas theme combines two very fun holidays into one wonderful event. Adding Santa hats to black cats and draping faux spiderwebs over red poinsettias is a great way to mingle the elements of each holiday into one fun-filled party.
Tip #1: You can twist black and white pipe cleaners to make Halloween themed candy canes.
Tip #2: For entertainment have the movie playing in the background the same way you would music.
With so many wonderful holiday movies there are endless party themes possibilities.
Party to the Holiday Tunes
Turn up the holiday music and start the party! Make a popular holiday song into the theme of your celebration. Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer, for example, lets you get really creative. All you have to do is listen!
Use the song lyrics as the inspiration for your event. Decorate with blue and silver candles, serve eggnog and play card games too, just like the song cheerfully belts out. Make sure to have the lyrics printed out in case some guests don’t know the song.
Tip #1: Draw sled tracks on paper and tape them around a chalked-in body outline.
Tip #2: Make it fun by dressing up. Pick someone to dress like grandma and another guest as a reindeer and watch them act out the song as it plays. Your guests will be laughing all night long and hoping to play grandma next year.
Choose your favorite holiday song and let your creativity go to work!
A Cozy Soup Soiree
Everyone loves a good potluck and soup is a great way to warm up your guests from the chilly temps. Melt the cold this season with a soup bar.
When deciding what soup to serve, your options are endless. Offer classic soups like homemade chicken noodle as well as some with a Christmas twist, like winter squash soup or a hearty stew. Invite guests to bring their favorite sides, or even a delicious dessert that will go well with hot cider and mulled wine.
Tip #1: Tell your guests that their ticket into the soup bar is Christmas sweater attire.
Tip #2: Decorate your soup bar with a wintry flower arrangement. Combine amaryllis with, evergreens and deep red cranberries in a frosted vase or red tin pail.
Christmas parties don’t always have to be the usual “singing carols and drinking eggnog.” Mix it up, and you’ll have the most interesting and original party around!
Top Thanksgiving Party Decor
November isn't far away, so it is time to start planning your Thanksgiving dinner or fall party! This season is all about bringing the rustic beauty of fall nature indoors. Wedding and Party Network has the top party decor trends so you can make your party or dinner a huge success.
Fruit
Decorating your Thanksgiving table with fruit can serve multiple purposes than just looking pretty. The deep purples of grapes and orange-reds of apples look beautiful on an un-served dinner plate and also serve as a delicious appetizer. Make a little cone out of construction paper, fill with cheese cubes, and set next to the grapes to give your guests a variety of appetizer options.
Pumpkins
Pumpkins are a staple for fall, but don't think your stoop is the only place to put your big pumpkins. Make a big pumpkin your table centerpiece by adding flowers or drilling holes into it to hold fruit kabobs. You can even use pumpkins without stems to hold plates on the buffet table for a unique twist.
Leaves
Leaves are a staple for fall, so use them in your decor too! Fill a vase with silk fall leaves or spread them around your dinner table. You can even make your own garland! Using glue and glitter, cover the leaves, let dry, and hang up using satin ribbon. It will give the feel of falling leaves and add a little sparkle to your decor.
Pinecones
Pinecones give a woodsy, rustic feel to any home decoration and also offers a little hint of the coming holiday–Christmas. Fill apothecary vases with pinecones or place around a simple candle arrangement to make it more homey. Use small pinecones in your table decor by using them as placement card holders.
Cinnamon
This decoration doesn't just look good, but smells good too! Cinnamon gives off the rustic look of wood and trees, but serve a dual purpose by giving off its spicy aroma. Place them on fabric napkins and tie with a satin ribbon. You can also decorate your drink station with cinnamon in case your guests would like to add a stick in their tea for extra flavor.
This Thanksgiving, get as creative as you would like with anything you can find in your yard. Pair your decorations with the rustic feel of pinecones, leaves, and pumpkins. Check back with Wedding and Party Network for more party ideas and tips.
Early Christmas Reminder: Start Planning Now!!!
I know what you're thinking, "C'mon, Ed. Christmas? Already? It's not even Halloween yet!"
And you're right. There are still two big holiday parties to throw before Christmas rolls around. But that doesn't matter. If you're planning on throwing a stellar Christmas bash, (and who isn't I ask you?), there is no time to waste. You need to start planning right now!
Christmas is Big!
And I don't just mean big. I mean HUGE! 95% of of the United States population celebrates Christmas. Why does that translate to planning early? Because there are a finite number of caterers, florists, decorators and party venues available, and all of them will be booking their Christmas activities on a first come, first serve basis. If you don't get your order in soon, you may find yourself left in the cold!
Early planning will allow you to know what services you're going to need and what date you're going to require them. This will allow you to contact those vendors in plenty of time to guarantee the necessary items are yours!
Don't be the one with bologna sandwiches for appetizers just because you neglected to book your caterer in advance. Impress your guests with delicious, mouthwatering fare. Decorate with gorgeous, holiday themed flowers and plants. Pick the perfect venue to let your guests dance the night away. And contact those vendors NOW!
Your Guests Need Notice
Remember that stat about how many people celebrate Christmas in this country? Yeah, that applies here as well. Odds are, if your invitees aren't going to make it to your party, they'll be attending someone else's. Just like with your party vendors, you need to get those invitations in the mail ASAP.
You need to know how many people are attending to properly book the caterer, ensure you have the right venue, etc. It's true in most things and party planning is no exception, information is power. The more you know about who is attending, the better you can plan the party around that guest list. Don't sit on those invites, get em in the mail!
Christmas is still a couple of months away, but that lee time is a good thing. With all the planning you will need to accomplish and all the details you're going to have to nail down, you'll need it! Don't delay, plan today!
Crafting Party with a Side of Hot Chocolate
Holidays are the time for giving and spending time with family and friends. This season is the perfect time to do both by hosting a party! It doesn't have to be anything fancy or extravagant. A quiet night in with a few of your friends will definitely suffice. If you're looking for a party idea that gives the gift of giving, while spending time with your loved ones, Wedding and Party Network has a crafting party that everyone will enjoy!
Keep it simple with the decor – Since your house is already decorated for the holidays, you don't really need any more decorations. You might consider finding a table centerpiece for the food and drink table, burlap banner for the hot chocolate bar, but nothing really else. Don't get extravagant, remember, this is supposed to be a cozy night in.
Your side of hot chocolate & sweets – With every party, guests love to snack on something. Be prepared to have a few sweet treats along with your hot chocolate. First things first, you must set up your hot chocolate bar. Go with a rustic theme for your table. Create a burlap table runner and a burlap banner that says hot chocolate bar that hangs over the table.
Set out hot chocolate mugs with a stick of chocolate inside so all your guests have to do is pour hot milk or water over top. You can also have a giant pot full of hot chocolate ready to go as well.
Don't forget the toppings. Marshmallows, crushed peppermint, crushed Graham crackers, and cinnamon sticks are all musts for your toppings. To make your table stand out even more, don't forget about the cute servingware. Find cute scoopers and tongs for your toppings, mason jars to place your toppings in, and cute glasses for hot chocolate. Just remember your theme is a rustic vibe.
Now, what type of sweets will you serve. Just serve up your favorite cookies. However, if you're having a bit of a brain lapse and have no clue. Serve macaroons, coconut macaroons, puppy chow mix, chocolate covered strawberries, and a chocolate covered ganache cake.
There are so many options! Again, if you don't have time, consider visiting your local bakery. They will have tons of delicious sweet treats! On to the craft – Choose whatever craft you like. You can create Christmas ornaments, hot chocolate jars, dessert jars, or even wreaths. There are many craft ideas, just research online to find some. Don't forget to create adorable bags for them to take their goodies home with them as well.
This holiday party is all about the hot chocolate and spending time with your loved ones. Start planning now so you can get this party in before the holidays are over.

Let Your Holiday Party Stand Out
So many times you host a holiday party and it's the same each year. Why not switch it up this year? It's always fun to make some changes to your traditional holiday party. It doesn't have to be anything major, but a few simple switch ups can make your party stand out even more. We've got a few holiday party tips that you can incorporate into this year's party.
Party Colors – Instead of the traditional green and red, why not update it to the latest holiday color trends? You can choose from red and aqua, natural inspired Christmas, winter white and blue or bright and colorful pinks and blues. By just switching up the color of your party, it can make a huge difference.
Decorations – If you change-up your colors, you must find decorations to match the theme. Ornaments are great decor besides being just for the tree. You can string fishing line through them and hang them from windows or chandeliers. Fill vases with ornaments for centerpieces as well. Don't forget to use candles throughout your party and flowers for beautiful centerpieces. No need to go over the top in decorations, when you can use beautiful flowers, a few ornaments and candles to set the mood of your party.
Holiday Food – If you normally do finger foods and appetizers for your party, think about switching it up to a sit-down dinner, potluck or cookie exchange. If you decide on a sit-down dinner, think about having your local caterer prepare the holiday feast. That way you can focus more on decorating or creating your favorite holiday appetizers or desserts. Even setting up the food or dessert table featuring different heights, fun shaped platters or colors can help change-up a party.
Instead of hosting your basic, traditional holiday party this year, think about switching it up.
