One word describes prom 2010: BOLD!

Bold colors, patterns and accessories are the key to making this year's prom one to never forget. Girls and guys both will want to step out in style this year with choices that grab attention and stand out from the crowd. From limousines to psychedelic dresses, everyone will be making a statement on prom night.

The Big Arrival

Image begins with the arrival. Many prom-goers will chip in and share a limousine on prom night. Rolling up in style will begin the night with a bang. Some students will even upgrade to a Hummer limo or other designer ride, complete with party-style interior and music. Parents will rest easy knowing their child isn't have to navigate the dark, busy roads late at night, and students will get a taste of the good life on the way to and from prom night.

Dresses

The dress is probably the single most important part of prom for many girls. It's a right of passage for girls who want to look their very best. This year girls will be going bold with their choices–nothing will be done halfway.

Patterns: Crazy, psychedelic-inspired prints in bright colors is huge this year. Streamlined dresses featuring the bold patterns with a hint of sparkle will be seen on countless dance floors. The range of options for cut and color allow girls to find a dress that flatters them, all while keeping up with the year's hottest trend.

Length: After years of tripping while trying to dance,  girls have finally taken the plunge and chosen short, flirty dress to hit the dance floor–and for good reason! Short prom dresses are still formal enough for the occasion, but girls can move with ease and lose the sense of stuffiness that some can feel in large, cumbersome dresses. It's all about feeling like yourself in your dress!

Metallics: Sequins, beading and full-on metallic fabrics will be all the rage on prom night this year. Girls will set out to copy their favorite celebrities after seeing them rock the red carpet donning metallic dresses of all lengths and styles. Girls can use the versatile look to go full glam or choose edgier accessories and styles to show off their rock star persona. With so many options, prom night is sure to be a little brighter with so many metallic dresses!

Vintage: Some things never go out of style, vintage bombshells being one of them. From the little black dress, to old Hollywood siren, many girls will select a classic look for their special occasion. And what's not to like? Flattering cuts, gorgeous hair and bold makeup are a surefire hit, no matter what decade you're in!

Hair

Girls this year are going for a head-to-toe look. No detail is overlooked in their planning–including the hair! However, while their dresses may be bold, girls will opt for a more subdued look for their hair. No girl wants to look like she's trying too hard. She wants her hair to compliment her look and appear "finished," not contrived or overworked. On prom night, many girls looking like themselves, only more polished and with a little extra flair.

Up do's: What's prom night without an up do? This hairstyle has been the go-to for decades. It gets the hair up and away from the face, allowing a girl's beauty to shine through and giving her prom dress the attention it deserves.

This year's up do's will feature loose curls, low chignons and the occasional sleek ponytail. The days of hundreds of bobby pins and cans of hairsprays are long gone. Girls know now that simple, easy hair is the best way to show off their good looks. Also, look for hairpins and flowers in the hair to top of an overall look.

Short hair: Too often girls with short hair are left in the dark for prom. However, there are dozens of ways to "dress up" short hair for prom! Given this year's big trend of hair accessories, short hair has never been easier do! Simply adding a sparkly pin, headband or bunch of pins will take a short hairstyle from sassy day to glam evening!

And depending on the style, adding a little height to the crown and bending some ends on a few layers and add that special touch to a wide-range of short hairstyles for prom. Take time to experiment prior to the big night to find what looks best.

Accessories

Jewelry and Bags: Because many girls with choose to have their dress be center stage, they will be choosing jewelry that doesn't upstate their dress and compliments their look. A simple earring and bracelet might be the perfect touch when completing a prom look.

Girls will also be choosing low-profile bags, opting for small clutches to their  lip gloss cameras and prom tickets. Some girls may also choose to use their clutches for additional bling on prom night. There are countless options of encrusted clutches that will work beautifully with a wide-rage of dresses without being overpowering.

Flowers: Prom corsages and boutonnieres are an absolute must for prom. This traditional flower arrangement has had a modern makeover in the last few years, making it yet another place to make a statement. Corsage bars are the latest craze that allows prom goers to build their own corsage from a buffet-style offering of ingredients.

Girls and guys are coordinating some of the wild and crazy colors seen in their clothing into their flowers. Flowers in every color, bright beading and heavy wiring are all ways they can make their prom corsages as unique as they are! Bold choices from the top of the head to the tip of the finger will make prom 2010 a night these lucky guys and girls will never forget!

GET YOUR PROM STARTED: FIND ALL YOUR PARTY NEEDS!

After prom parties are popular for many reasons, mainly because many teens aren't ready to call it a night with their friends.  By hosting an after prom breakfast, you provide a safe place for the teens to hang out after prom.

First thing to do is to set guidelines with your teen. Discuss what is acceptable at the party and what is not acceptable.  Some parties go on all night. While others have a cut off time for everyone to leave and go home.  Take time to talk this over with your teen and if possible get a few other parents involved.  Make the time period and guidelines for the party known well in advance of the event.  This can be done with the party invitations you send.

You can go all out with your decorations or you can be very minimalistic. Either way, you will need to decide whether to go with the prom theme or in a different direction all together. If you want to change it up, try a pajama party theme.  All the teens can come to the party location and change from their prom wear into pj's (you might want some guidelines for acceptable attire).

Deciding which type of food to serve is simple.  Any Breakfast food will do: eggs, bacon, bagels, fruit. Buffet style works best for these types of food and hungry teens. You may want to have several carafes of flavored coffees available or other drinks such as orange juice, milk and soda. To add pizzaz include a chocolate fountain. If you're hosting a party for a huge crowd of prom goers, you'll need to rent warming dishes and other tableware.  Of course, the most convenient way to serve the food is to hire a caterer.

An after breakfast prom party is a wonderful way to extend the prom in a fun and safe way.  It is also a way for them to create memories that will last a lifetime.

Prom Night. This eventful evening is quite possibly the most anticipated night of the year for high school teenagers across the nation. From the prom dress to the prom limo, every detail of the evening must be perfect to fulfill those high expectations. Of course there is the actual dance, but the prom experience is so much more than a few slow dances with your high school sweetheart. Prom night is about dressing up in glamorous prom dresses and handsome suits and cramming all of the activities that you can into the most memorable night of your life. This exciting night starts by taking thousands of pictures of you and your date before you leave.

More than just "Taking Prom Pictures"

Prom pictures are a very important part of the prom experience. They are what makes those wonderful prom night memories last forever.

It is best to take these pictures before the festivities begin so prom hair has not gone flat and prom corsages are still vibrant with color. However, everyone meeting just to take 100 pictures in the same pose is somewhat boring. Why not turn the boring "picture taking" into a "hors d’oeuveres and cocktails" hour? Remember, pictures can be taken as friends and family arrive.

Prom pictures should include more than just photos of couples. This night is about friendship and fun, so have pictures taken with friends as well. While waiting for their turn in front of the camera, prom-goers can enjoy fancy snacks and fruity drinks before the crew heads out for dinner. A table filled with delicious food and a fancy floral centerpiece will set the elegant mood for the night. Starting the night with this type of party and atmosphere allows for nerves to settle and uptight dates to loosen up before the big night.

Prom Dining – Go Big or Go Home

Now some prom-goers choose to skip out on the dinner plans on prom night. However, sitting down for a nice meal before a long night of fun is advised. A pre-prom meal helps to calm jittery nerves and allows you and your date to relax before the actual prom dance. Dinner is also a fantastic experience to share with other friends that will be attending the prom. To add an exceptional touch to the night, you and a few of your friends could take a stretch limo from the hors d’oeuveres party to dinner and then to the prom. A stretch limo will add to the red carpet feel of all your prom night activities.

If you choose to go to dinner, be sure and choose a restaurant appropriate for prom attire. For example, it would be quite odd to see a guy in a tux and a gal in an evening gown eating at McDonald's. The point is that you want to fit in with the atmosphere of the restaurant. Low lighting, tablecloths, and fancy tableware are good indications that the restaurant is appropriate for prom apparel. Last but not least – Enjoy Dinner! It's not everyday that you get to wear an evening gown and tuxedo out to a fancy dinner in a limo!

Grand March – Prom On Display

Not all schools have a "Grand March."  However, they have recently become a popular trend. During the Grand March individuals and couples are announced by name as they parade down a carpet.

This allows all of the other attendees and parents to see each and every person that has come to the prom. It is basically your "10 seconds of fame". Everyone's eyes are on you, ooo-ing and aww-ing as you walk down the carpet.

If your school does not have a Grand March prom tradition, it might be a good idea to suggest adding it to the itinerary this year!

Prom – "At Last"

It seems as though it is never going to arrive, and once it is here it's gone in a flash. Prom is a fun filled night of dancing, laughing, and for some, falling in love. Not a dancer? You can still enjoy the band at prom. Who knows? Your feet might start tapping to the beat. Whether you are with a date or by yourself, remember that the prom experience is what you make it. Good attitudes make good memories and fun times, so be sure to leave the house with a smile!

After-Prom Breakfast

The party is not over just because the DJ is packing up and going home. One final destination is in store to make the perfect prom night: The After Prom Breakfast.

A parent or group of parents usually hosts these parties at their home or at an event hall. Either way, this is a very important part of the night. It is where all of the students get to gather together, take off those uncomfortable tuxedos and dresses, eat some good food, and reminisce about the fun times they have had over the past few hours.

This after prom breakfast can be as elaborate or as casual as you like. Prom party decorations such as streamers, balloons, and fun centerpieces are a nice added touch to the atmosphere and help create more of a "party" environment. Food for the after-prom breakfast can be catered to help save the host time and stress. Of course you will need to find a caterer who will agree to work at an odd hour or one who will provide the food at a normal hour that will only need to be reheated.

Remember that you only have one senior prom, and the memories made that prom night will last you a lifetime. So, go all out in 2009 and make it a prom that any high school student would envy. Caterers, limo services, and restaurants are booked up pretty fast. Therefore, be sure and make reservations for services well ahead of time to be sure you have everything you need to make your 2009 prom a memorable one!

Prom 2008 Elegance Defined

Prom is the most anticipated and memorable night of a high school students' life. It is the one night of the year where you and your friends are able to go all-out with hair, make up, and an amazing dress. Choosing a prom dress can be an exciting, yet burdensome, experience. With trends changing from year to year, it is hard to differentiate what is in and what is out. In the past, the theme has been "the bigger, the better", whether it was over the top hair, fake eyelashes, top hats and canes or an outrageous dress. This year, the extreme costume-style trend is coming to an end with the arrival of elegant, glamorous, red carpet fashion.

Prom Dresses – Available Options

For the ladies long, sleek, elegant dresses are the way to go this year. Whether a strapless, halter, or one-shoulder gown, these dress styles encompass chic fashion trends with red carpet glam. Beading, such as sequins or rhinestones, is always a great-added touch to a gown if not overdone. Be cautious when choosing a dress with Continue reading "Prom Trends 2008" »
