Dear Wedding and Party Network Vendors,

We're Social!

Our Social Media Department has been making great strides to bring your local business to millions of online users. To do that, we have created a Facebook page to directly interact with consumers and vendors, making your time with Wedding and Party Network a more social experience.

In addition, we are finding our vendors online. Many of you are active on Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin. We dedicate social media resources to promoting Wedding and Party Network vendors to our followers.

Connecting to Your Profile

Following our redesign, we have created space in your vendor profile to link many social media platforms to your WPN profile. This allows you to connect in a variety of ways to clients, as well as find new customers.

To do this, simply log-in to your Admin account and copy and paste the URL of your social media accounts into the space provided. You will then see a tab added to your profile page featuring your social media networks.

Find us on Facebook!

To connect with our fans on Facebook, visit http://www.facebook.com/weddingandpartynetwork and “Like” our page. We will then add you to our list of favorite pages and periodically feature you on our page, where several hundred fans will see you and find a link to your business' Facebook page! You can also upload your own photos and comments to our page for everyone to see! Remember: the more you post, the more you will be seen by potential clients!

Follow us on Twitter!

Wedding and Party Network also uses Twitter to connect with fans and vendors to share ideas, news, and trends. We use special techniques to place our vendors at the forefront of popular Twitter searches, as well as promote our site across Twitter. Follow us at www.twitter.com/followWPN to begin receiving our Tweets!

Have a Blog?

If you have a blog, drop us a line at social@weddingandpartynetwork.com to be added to our blog roll featured on our site. Then add us http://www.weddingandpartynetwork.com/blog/ to your blogroll to get the latest in wedding and party information.

There are numerous ways to expand your business' online presence through Wedding and Party Network's Social Media Department. We are constantly exploring new ways to promote Wedding and Party Network members, and we look forward to seeing you on our many social network platforms!

If you have any questions, contact us at social@weddingandpartynetwork.com.

Ask The Celebration Advisor:

My fiance and I would like to save money on invitations and were thinking about using Facebook to send out invitations to our friends and family. We're still using regular invitations for our parents and grandparents and older family members, but we were going to use invitations on Facebook for our friends and younger family members. Is this ok? We don't want to offend anyone, but we have to save where we can.

Thanks,

Jen

Celebration Advisor Reply:

Jen,

Congratulations on your engagement! Thank you for turning to Wedding and Party Network to plan your wedding. By finding talented, local vendors, you are choosing the best for your wedding and saving money at the same time! Now, to your question…

At nearly 400 million users, Facebook has become a formidable means of quick and easy communication. However, that does not make it a substitute for formal invitations, no matter how effective the Events tool is. Formal communication may be rare, but it is still an important part of announcing one of the most special days of your life.

The good news is you don't have to spend hundreds of dollars sending invitations the old-fashioned way. There are countless creative options for your wedding invitations. The less formal the affair, the more fun you can have. Everything from vintage post cards to custom photographs featuring the event information can be sent. Today's biggest trends are about making your wedding about you, so have some fun! Have a local artist draw a portrait of the two of you, or break out the glue gun and make your own; the sky is the limit!

If you are having a more formal affair, a more traditional invitation is needed. Contact your local print shop or stationery vendor to find specials or sales. Find card stock at a discount and ask to have invitations printed. There are many options for invitations. Contact your local stationery vendor to learn more about your chocies.

After you have decided to send invitations, it is fine to create a Facebook Event to let your friends know about your wedding. However, no one should be invited on Facebook that has not recieved an invitation via mail. Not only is it confusing for recipients, it could lead to numerous extra guests at your wedding. Therefore, forego Facebook as your means of sending wedding invitations and send out creative, inexpensive formal invitations instead. Remind your guests using Facebook, and rest assured that your guests have been treated properly and your wedding planning is going smoothly!

As the homepage famously says, "Facebook helps you connect and share with the people in your life." But did you know, thanks to Facebook business pages, that you can discover and learn more about your local wedding professionals?

Facebook is a great way to learn more about the people you are considering hiring for your wedding. Caterers, musicians, and florists can all be found on Facebook. After you find your local wedding and party professionals and review their offerings, head to Facebook to learn more about them. Not all wedding vendors are extremely active on the site; however, a few really take advantage of their business pages and upload specials, videos, and notes for their fans to enjoy.

A word of caution: While Facebook is a great way to learn more about a potential vendor, always visit their site or professional network they are associated with to see if the vendor is trustworthy. Then visit Facebook to interact!

Finding a Page

Facebook Pages allows people to share information about their business or product with the public. Unlike personal profiles, a user simply "likes" a page to subscribe and see updates on their homepage alongside their friends' status updates. Wedding professionals often use pages to display photos, specials, and updates about their business.

To get started, search in the Facebook search bar for a business name and choose from among the results.

Once you have found your vendor, refer back to their network's page or Website to double check the phone number and address to ensure that the vendor you are seeing is the same one you found earlier because many wedding vendors on Facebook share the same name.

Learn More

Explore the vendor's information by clicking through the tabs at the top of their page. Here, you will find notes written by the vendor, photos, and any other information the vendor thinks you would like.

Also, you will see the vendor's Wall, which is a feed of posts, status updates, and tidbits posted by the vendor. This is the first place to look for new information, because any change to the page will appear here first.

Interact

Social Media is a means to interact, much like e-mail and text messaging.  You can write on a vendor's Wall, comment on a photo, or reply to a status update.  Some vendors also allow you to share links or photos on their page. Facebook also has a "like" tool available below postings. It will simply show your name and that you liked the post. For example, "[Your name here] and 7 others like this." You can both like and comment on a post, or stick to one or the other. Liking simply allows you to show your approval without having to write a comment.

Another word of caution: Never provide personal information via Facebook, such a credit card numbers. Facebook is not a secure site, and information on business pages is public. Instead, save your personal information exchanges  for either a safe site, such as the vendor's personal site, or when dealing face-to-face with your wedding professional.

There are countless ways to interact with vendors on Facebook. As always, use good judgment and be sure to take a look at vendor information from other sources to make certain they are reputable.  Once you have narrowed down your potential wedding vendors to the last few, use Facebook to learn more about them!
