Party Tip of the Week – Beach Parties

Planning a beach themed party this summer? Here are a few tips and ideas that will get you started.

Use sand pails as your servingware. You can even use shovels to serve the food with. Just a cute added little detail to your party.
Serve some ocean water, which is just a punch that is blue.
Provide shades, as in sunglasses. These make adorable party favors.
Use inflatable or plastic pools in an innovative way. How? As a place to serve drinks. You can put a ton of ice and drinks in there and don't have to worry about leaking.
Use Golden Oreos to create edible sand. This would be adorable to put underneath your food.

Glitz and Glam Emmy's Watch Party

The Emmy’s are here! I repeat the Emmy’s are here! It’s time to celebrate the love and emotional tie we have to our favorite TV characters. Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Downton Abbey, and Glee all need to be cheered on right? Here is the best way to do this. It’s another excuse to throw a party!

Themed Party Food

Personally, this would be a great excuse to get all the girls over for a male free night. The easiest way to get them here is to offer food and select beverages. I suggest food catered to your favorite show. Mad Men martinis and grilled filet mignons go perfectly with Mad Men and their life in style. Try these fun entrees and drinks to fit the theme:

White and Red Wine
Martinis
Champagne

Chic Meals

Filet Mignon Wrapped in Bacon
Bite Sized Twice Baked Potatoes
Swedish Meatballs
Mixed Green Salad with Parmigiano Crisps

Fan of Downton Abbey? Serve up yummy tea with tea cakes. Or, maybe you're a fan of Glee? If so, think about having slushy themed cupcakes or actual slushies. Just like within the television show, if you don't like someone or the winner, throw the slushy at the screen. Just remember, you have to clean that up.

Glitz & Glam Touches

What about those special added details? Well, don’t worry about sporting fine china for this event. Simply buy gold paper plates and supply gold and white star napkins for extra Emmy’s fun. This just clears up the time from cleaning dishes to drooling over John Hamm.

Decorating for this party should be a breeze. Simply get red, gold and white candles in all different heights. Place them accordingly over black tulle by the food in a corner to add to the looks of your well-made meal. I’m sure it will be beautiful!

Saying Thanks

As the Emmy’s come to a close, it’s time for everyone to head home. For party favors, give your girls personalized wine glasses. If you’re a great painter, simply paint a creative design that fits your guests’ personality. If you are like me and are only good with paint pens, draw your design and cook your glasses in the oven at 325 degrees for 40 minutes. It seals the paint pen design for washing and wear and These party favors will end the night as a success.

Great food, great decorations and great party favors are all the makings of a great awards night. Who says all the awards are handed out at the Emmy’s?

Are you looking for a great theme party to host? One that all of your friends will enjoy. A roaring 20's party is an absolute must! The costumes, decorations and styling of the party are all fantastic, which means a great party! Wedding and Party Network has a few tips on creating a fabulous roaring 20's party.

Roaring 20's Party Decorations – Take inspiration from this time period when planning your party. Right down to the party invitations, everything you give off that vibe. When you send your party invitations, find the typography, patterns and colors that were on trend during the 20's. This will let your guests know what type of party you are hosting and know that they will need to come in costume.

Next, create a 20's setup within your house or backyard. Drape your tables with black or red table cloths and have your florist create stunning event centerpieces that depicts the era. Make sure and set the mood with candles as well. Don't forget to decorate the tables with pearls and have the feather boa's ready. You can even go as far as setting up black cut outs of people in their flapper dresses and stylish hats and stick them to the wall.

What Party Food to Serve – Basically, serve what you like. If this is for a birthday party, serve the birthday girl/boy's favorite food. Or, you can focus on just serving appetizers. However, if you're wanting to stick to the theme, research what type of food they ate during the 20's.

Keep in mind that this era was during the prohibition and it actually did have impact of what they are and of course drank. Some examples are cream cheese sandwiches, nuts and date salad mayonnaise, olives salted nuts candied ginger, crabmeat croquettes, fruit cocktail, biscuit tortoni angel cake square bonbons and coffee.

Break Out Those Flapper Dresses – The best apart about this party is everyone gets to dress up! Who doesn't love a themed costume party? Girls, find those vintage flapper dresses or drop waist dresses paired with fish nets, garter and a cigarette holder. For the guys, they should be decked out in suits and definitely a hat. They can go with the mobster feel where they dress up in a suit, hat and make sure they have their toy gun holster. However, they can also go with a more preppster side of it by dressing in a summer suit and a flat cap.

The whole point of this party is to dress up. It's a great time for everyone to get into costume and have a great time!

A Masquerade Ball

Are you wanting to have an elegant and sophisticated Halloween party? There are many ideas out there. One party that does come to mind is a masquerade ball. This is great for all ages and especially the adults who aren't into going all out for Halloween. They can put on a fancy dress and a mask and be done. Wedding and Party Network has a few tips for your Halloween masquerade ball.

If you're hosting a ball, it's best to rent out a larger event venue for this. The whole key to making your ball a success is portraying elegance. Drape the walls with black or white linens and hang lights underneath them. Next, set up the tables. They should be draped with black table cloths and accented with beautiful event centerpieces. Some amazing colors that will offset the black are jewelled tone colors and metallic. Silvers, deep purple, gold or even a great jade colors will all looks amazing on the table.

Sit down and talk with your florist. They will great ideas to create stunning centerpieces that will make your tables pop with exuberance. Create cascading event centerpieces that feature your colors with beautiful lighting underneath, have masks on each table, strands or pearls and glitter.

Also, don't forget about the place settings. This will add to the decor as well. Use unique tableware, napkins and creative place cards. You can use miniature masks as place settings and attach it to the napkins. Don't forget to add glitter and rhinestones to the masks. Don't forget the dance floor, amazing lighting and of course, your dj! Everyone will definitely want to get out on the dance floor and dance the night away.

What To Serve

Since you're going with elegance for this party, the food should state that as well. If you are wanting to cook your own dishes, make sure you have a menu for the appetizers, main course and dessert. For the appetizers, serve toasted brioche with crème fraîche, lobster salad on endive spears, phyllo cups filled with pesto & artichokes or sour cream filled sugar snap peas.

Next up, serve rack of lambs, duck with raspberries, beef Wellington or chicken tortellini. Of course, the main attraction is the dessert. Serve up yummy crème brûlée, chocolate parfait in a martini glass or a themed party cake. However, if you're truly unsure on what to serve, talk with your local caterer. They will have many ideas on what to serve at your masked ball. Don't forget, you can always go with whatever your favorite dishes are as well.

Get Into Costume

It's a masked ball, so start planning your costume. Get decked out in actual ball gown. You could always go a little less formal as well and go with any cute short formal dresses or even bridesmaid dresses that you have saved from past weddings.

This is an elegant take on a Halloween party. Honestly, this party can be throw year round. For New Year Eve, charity events or even birthday parties; it's a great themed party for any occasion.

How to Throw a Slamming Super Hero Party

As a mother of three young children, I have to come realize that a birthday party can be much more than a few gifts and a cake. A birthday party is a day that your child will carry with them for many years. You have to find what makes them tick and then run with it. Alex is like most other five-year old boys, he is fascinated with superheros. His entire life revolves around them and every moment of his day is masked with a theme song to go along with his adventures. So what better theme than an action packed super hero adventure for his sixth birthday party!

How to make a Super Hero Party Super Cheap!

A superhero party can easily turn into something that is super-expensive if you don't be careful. Here are some fun ways to make this party excellent and save a little money with homemade touches!

The party can evolve around several different superheros or if your child has a favorite, you can build the party around just one.

Choosing Your Theme

Color Schemes:

The Incredible Hulk: Green and Brown
Batman: Black and Yellow
Spider Man: Red and Blue
Super Man: Red, Blue and Yellow
Green Lantern: Green and Black
Iron Man: Red and Gold

Superhero Party Theme

Creating Invitations

When putting together party invitations, you can make them with colored card stock and stickers. Cut out the emblems of different hero's and glue on card stock with your child's initials on the front. Or glue a picture of your child in his favorite superhero costume on the front.

“Calling All Superheros!” – Invite the children who are coming to wear a hero or villain costume!

Decorating the Superhero Hang-Out

There are a lot of fun creative ways to decorate for superhero parties.

Blow up balloons and hang streamers according to the color scheme you have chosen.
Print out Images of Comic Strips and post them on the walls.
Print out warning signs such as “ KAZZAM!”, “POW”, “FLASH”, “ZOINK” and hang throughout the area.
Print signs warning villains to stay clear.
Wrap gifts with cheap comic books.
You can design and cut out emblems and tape or glue to the front of the balloons.
Display your child's action figures around the area; hanging from streamers, climbing the walls, fighting villains and so on.
Designate a wall or specific area with a big back drop for taking pictures.

Games and Activities

Craft Table:

Set up a table with pre-cut masks, lay out markers, glue sticks, confetti, pom poms, strings, and stickers.
Set our crayons and coloring pages of all the different superheros.

Brick Wall Smash:

Build a wall with cardboard “bricks” covered in red brick paper and let each child smash in it!

Superhero Clue Hunt:

Fill a bucket or “Treasure” box with party toys (you can find these at most retails stores).

Create clues based on the villains and heroes on card stock and hide around the area. The kids will get in groups of two or three and see who can find the “Treasure” first. Everyone gets a toy! This game is better for children who can read.

X-ray Vision Game

Put all sorts of different items in a big box and let the kids (who have something covering their eyes) name them without sight, only touch or smell. This can get very funny when you put all kinds of silly things in the box. For instance, if you put in a half of a banana and you stick one of the kid's fingers in it. Be creative, this will probably be most hilarious part of the party!

Musical Chairs:

Collect different theme songs and use as the music for the well-known game of musical chairs, but instead of chairs, use large pillows on the floor.

Kryptonite Hot Potato:

Have the kids stand or sit in a circle using a green ball or a potato painted green and have the children pass the “kryptonite” from one child to another until the music stops, who ever has it when it stops, has to sit down.

Pinata:

You can find superhero pinatas almost anywhere, fill with small toys, stickers and candies for the kids to take home. Don't forget to have small bags handy to store the candy in!

Super Food

You can serve anything that you would at a normal party; pizza, sandwiches, veggies and dip etc… Place signs over the options with “superhero” names such as Radioactive Pizza, Kryptonite Sandwiches, Goblin Veggies and Spidey Dip.

The Cake:

The superhero party has been successful so far, but the themed cake is what always tops it! You can create your own unique homemade cakes or buy one that is already decorated especially for your child. Cupcakes are a great substitution ( No time wasted cutting and serving! ).

Goody Bags:

Get small bags and include :

Superhero Party

Small flashlight (For finding the bad guys!)
Cheap black sunglasses (X-ray glasses)
Bubbles (To distract the villains)
Note pad and pencil (To write down clues)
Whistle or Horn ( To call for back up)
Certificate welcoming them into the “Justice Leauge”

If you really want to go the extra mile and REALLY make this party awesome think about having a surprise visit by an "Actual Superhero!" You can buy or rent a costume online or at your local costume shop. It is best to have someone who is not close to the child dress up, because you wouldn't want to spoil it when they figure out that Batman sounds just like daddy!

Your surprise Superhero could make a big entrance with the last gift for your little guy (or girl) and then stay to take a few pictures with the kids. The party will over flow with excitement!

Between decorations, party food, activities and the surprise guest you will have your kids laughing and having a great time. Your superhero fanatic will be the talk of the town.

Since it is unlikely that many of us will be attending the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton on April 29th at the beautiful Westminster Abbey, why not throw our own fabulous viewing party to enjoy the history in making! Celebrating the royal wedding gives perfect opportunity to re-create story book fantasies fit for a prince and his princess.

How To Decorate Like Royalty

You can incorporate the perfect royal touches and capture the elegance of this grand event by decorating your home as an English garden.

Create this garden setting with dramatic overflowing flower arrangements that include white lilies (known to be Kate's favorite), white daffodils, white roses and spring myrtle (a royal wedding tradition). Top it off with beautiful potted topiary throughout the party space. You can create an amazing fragrant English country charm!

Drape the tables set up for the buffet with lush fabrics and adorned with strings of hearts, crystals and your best china, of course! If luxurious china isn't in your budget, you can use silver and off white paper wear or clear plastic dishes to mimic crystal.

Inspirational Friday – Mardi Gras Theme!

Every Friday, Wedding and Party Network will be choosing a theme or color and offer you inspirational photos. We want to help give you inspiration for your next event, wedding or party. The colors purple, green and gold are so fun and will make your party or wedding a big hit! So, this week we will give you photos featuring all the colors of Mardi Gras.

When throwing a Mardi Gras party, it doesn't have to be a full-blown explosion of purples, greens and golds. You can tone it down to pastel colors or stick with two colors, if it's more for a dinner party. However, going all out for Mardi Gras seems to fit best. Bright purples, golds and greens can incorporate it into a party cake, tablescape and even your flowers. Throwing this themed party will be a hit. Just add some beads and you have yourself a great Mardi Gras party.

"Luck Be With You" Treasure Hunt

St. Patrick's Day is approaching and green, clovers and gold will be coming along with it. Think green, luck, rainbows, leprechaun, four leaf clovers and gold. All the traditional items you think about when St. Patrick's Day rolls around. Well, incorporate these items into a party theme that provides something unique this year for your party, and host a treasure hunt. Wedding and Party Network is here to help you create a lucky treasure hunt your guests will enjoy. It's a great idea, just have your guests follow the rainbow.

Treasure Hunt Clues

First thing you'll want to decide is do you want to make it a scavenger hunt or a real treasure hunt with a map. Either way, you'll be able to use the same clues for both. Next, sit down and write out all the things that are associated with St. Patrick's Day. These can range from any items, such as:

Four Leaf Clover – Find me 4 some luck.
Leprechauns – Fiddly, diddly, quickly catch me.
Pot Of Gold – You would LOVE to find me at the end of a rainbow.
Rainbows – Bright & colorful, but only when it rains.
Blarney Stone – Kiss me & maybe you'll receive some luck.
Irish Flag – Square with all the colors of Ireland
Top Hat – Black with a hint of gold.
Any Green Items

Use these clues to help point your guests in the right direction. Place small items that are sort of hidden for them to find, once they find it; they will be led to the next item. At the end of the treasure hunt, create a giant rainbow to let them know they are at the end. Place a big pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, just like you hear every St. Patrick's Day. This giant pot of gold will be the winning prize. You could easily make this yourself, just grab a bucket or basket and spray paint it black. Fill it up with chocolate gold coins, or real ones and green items.

Your guests will truly have a ball with this St. Patty's Day treasure hunt. It has to be the first thing to do, since guests will arrive full of anticipation. Doing it first also allows for your guests to have something exciting to talk about afterward over your delicious green party food. It fits the theme and is something unique. Plus, your guests will be able to get out of the house from those winter months if it's a nice day out. This party will be a hit!

Winning Dishes

After the treasure hunt, your guests may have worked up a hungry stomach. If you run around outside for the hunt, stick with a soup to warm your guests up. Possibly a butternut squash soup. This shows off a hint of gold and can be your pot of gold soup. This recipe is just a fun way to stick with the theme. Stick with traditional Irish food, like corned beef, cabbage or shepherds pie.

St Patrick's Day Party Food

You may want to stick with traditional appetizers. One way for these party foods to fit the theme is to die them green and gold. All it takes is a bit of food coloring and you'll have some St. Patrick's Day party food.

For dessert, stick with rainbow and green cupcakes. Place a gold coin, shamrock or gold coin on top of the cupcake for a little extra touch. Visit your local bakery to have them create you a pot of gold party cake. Wouldn't this be so fun at this party? Have them create a pot filled with gold coins, a rainbow over top and a leprechaun by the pot of gold.

If you haven't a clue on what to serve or what type of desserts you'll need, talk with your local caterer and your local baker. They would be glad to help you in throwing a successful party!

The Chinese New Year is different every year since it depends on the lunar phase. It is also based on a mythology beast called Nian, that would come out and eat people on this day until a man conquered this, which in turn people began to celebrate. This is the most important holiday in the Chinese calendar.

It lets them honor their household and hold remembrance for their lost ancestors. However, it has evolved into a big celebration that brings family members together. This celebration lasts for 15 days and has a certain day devoted to family members and ancestors. It ends with a big festivity and their lantern festival.

How YOU Can Celebrate!

There are lots of ideas you can use when creating a Chinese New Year themed party. From the colors, invites, decorations and food; you'll celebrate in true custom ways with a fun themed dinner party.

Invitations: Create red and gold lanterns in honor of their lantern festival, you can easily make this on your own or find something at your stationery store. Also, go with the Chinese zodiac sign that is being featured this year, which is the rabbit. However, you can also stick with all zodiac signs like the tiger, rabbit, snake, dragon or monkey. These items go great with this celebration and all you need to include is the basics.

Festive Colors & Decorations: Stick with reds and golds for your party color scheme. Place paper lanterns, Chinese good luck symbols and zodiac symbols out for party decorations. During this holiday, there are flowers that represent this holiday. Plum blossom, bamboo, sunflower and eggplant are what you can use for a Chinese New Year flower arrangement for your party. Stick with Chinese traditional symbols, signs and flowers to create a themed look.

Chinese New Year Traditional Food

Asian Style Dishes: Of course, when you are trying to figure out what type of party food you need to serve, go with Asian influenced dishes. This should be all about their culture, especially what type of food they serve. Spring rolls, dumplings, lettuce wraps, stir fry, orange chicken, tangerines, oranges, fish and long noodles are some of the dishes that can be served during your festivities.

Also, when thinking about what food to prepare, think of what they mean in Chinese culture. Chicken & fish symbolize happiness and prosperity, oranges represent good fortune, noodles means longevity and duck means fertility. You'll have a prosperous new year.

Even though desserts are not too popular during this holiday doesn't mean you can't serve up some for your party. Create a tangerine sorbet, mandarin orange pie or Chinese almond cookies. Traditional desserts include a Chinese sticky cake. This is pretty much a rice cake and is served to the kitchen god to ensure good luck for the upcoming year.

However, if cooking is not your strong suit; order Chinese take out. This may be frowned upon in their culture, but it may be just as good to you. Another alternative is hiring a caterer. They will always make sure they serve up traditional Chinese New Year food for your party!

Thanks For Coming: Another tradition that they do is giving gifts in red envelopes, mainly money. So, say thank you to your guests with a red envelope filled with fortune cookies and chopsticks. Such a simple party favor, yet it goes perfectly with this theme!

February – The Month Of Love, Weddings & Cherries?

The month of February is right around the corner. Are you thinking Valentine's Day? A holiday of red, pinks and whites that celebrates the love of being with someone or to remind you that you are single. However, there are much more interesting facts surrounding February. Every month in fact has interesting and neat facts that we would have never thought about. So if you're planning a party for the month of February and haven't a clue on where to begin, run with one of these themes that represent the month of February. It will be a February party!

Little Tidbits

The word February was actually derived from the Old Latin term, februarius, which means purification. There is a saying that surrounds this month, "dye it black or dye it white", which means it can either snow a lot or rain a lot. It also has only 29 days in the month, except for leap years. And is the only month that can go without having a full moon.

Horoscope Signs: The horoscope signs of this month are Aquarius, Pisces and according to the new zodiac calendar Capricorn is included in this too. Aquarius is represented by the water bearer and are great thinkers, active, high-strung and feel very deeply.

Pisces completes the zodiac and is the 12th sign, which bears 2 fish for the water sign. These people are adventurous, ambitious, impulsive, enthusiastic and full of energy! Do these signs represent you? How does this incorporate into a party? Throw a zodiac sign party!

February's Birthstone: This beautiful birthstone is the amethyst. It captures a beautiful purple colored stone. This deep purple hue has been found among royalty and is usually found in beautiful churches. It does represent spirituality and piety. If given as a gift, it is said to strengthen the relationship and gives you power to overcome any difficult situations.

Also, to go along with this color is the violet flower, which is the flower of February. To incorporate this stone into a February themed party, throw a purple party!
