You are planning a wedding! That's wonderful! It's one of the most important days of your life! Have you started planning, and most importantly have you decided what type of wedding gown style you will go with? A girl dreams about her wedding dress since she was a little girl. It's one of the most important details to her. However, it's not just about the dress. The accessories complete your wedding day look. From the shoes, jewelry to the veil; it's all important. The veil is especially important. How do you choose though with so many types of wedding veils? Well, Wedding and Party Network has your wedding veil guide.

Blusher -This type of veil is short in length and made with only one layer of material. The blusher veil covers the face prior to the ceremony, used to hide the face from the groom. It pairs nice with any type of wedding gown.

Bouffant -A bouffant wedding veil is a shorter veil that touches the shoulders of the bride. This type of wedding veil was popular in the 60's and great for shorter haircuts, which makes it suitable for simple wedding gowns, even short.

Flyaway -The flyaway veil is less formal than chapel and cathedral, which is made from several layers of material. It is shorter and is made for more simple gowns.

Mantilla – Mantilla wedding veils are not gathered at all. They are large flat circles or ovals, which are great for Spanish inspired wedding gowns or traditional gowns. The sheerness of this veil helps the wedding gown in the back show through.

Ballerina or Waltz – A wedding veil that can be referred as both features material, such as tulle, that falls between the bride's knees and her ankles.

Shoulder -This type of wedding veil hits right at the shoulders. This type of veil is for simple gowns. However, can be made with multiple layers.

Elbow -The elbow wedding veil falls right to the elbow in length. It can also have one or two layers, which two layers make it stand up more. When choosing this wedding veil, make sure that your wedding dress is longer rather than a shorter one.

Waist - A wedding veil that hits at the bride's waist. Can be made with multiple layers and is for any type of gown, whether it be simple or more formal.

Fingertip - A fingertip styled veil is exactly what you're thinking. It's a veil that reaches to the fingertips. This style can work with a lot of different styled wedding gowns. Casual, modern to formal wedding gowns; a fingertip veil can work.

Knee -The knee-length wedding gown is just how it sounds, it hits at the knee. It can have multiple layers and is great for any style of wedding gown.

Chapel -This isn't quite as long as the cathedral wedding veil (below). It's 2 1/2 years from the headpiece to the end. This reaches the ground, however, doesn't drag behind. Great for a formal type wedding.

Royal or Cathedral – This wedding veil is one of the most formal veils out of all of them. It measures 3 1/2 yards from the headpiece to the bottom edge. It allows for a flowing effect on the ground. This type of veil is great for very formal weddings, hence the name royal.

There are so many type of wedding veils out there, from shorter to longer lengths and from single layers to multiple layers. It's all about what you love and showcasing your wedding day style.

In the modern bridal wardrobe the dress comes first, then the veil or headpiece, and next are the shoes.  But what part, if any, did shoes play in the past?  The idea behind tossing the garter or the bouquet came from the times when brides were treated as property and guests would rip off pieces of her wedding gown to ward of spirits, and in hope to bring themselves good luck.

As brides became less like a piece of property, brides took to throwing their shoes.  Then, as time passed, brides began throwing their bouquets.  I suspect the change came because of two reasons: shoes are expensive, and bridal bouquets hurt less when you're hit by them. In Egypt brides were considered property of the father. The father of the bride would give the groom the bride's sandals signifying that groom now has possession over her.

In jolly old England, the tradition of  something blue was done by wearing blue shoes. Queen Victoria in 1840 is credited with being the first famous bride to wear white shoes.

I am told that an old tradition in Armenia is catching on again.  Some one steals one of the bride's shoes, and the maid of honor and the best man have to pay a ransom to get the shoes back so the wedding can take place. Another old Armenian tradition is one where the bride writes her bridesmaids' names on her shoes, and as each gets married she cross their name off.

Shoes have played a supporting role in weddings since weddings have taken place.  I suggest one thing, whether your going with an old tradition or doing something non-traditional,  you should at least be comfortable.

Stroll into any flea market and you will find dozens of brooches tucked away in glass cabinets and corners. Always eclectic, sometimes sparkly, these eye-catching trinkets hook countless shoppers who wish for a good reason to pick these little guys up. Until recently, aside from making a fashion statement, there has been little use for vintage brooches.

Thankfully, with the emergence of the DIY weddings and eco-friendly wedding design, brooches are a great way to create unity and add a fun touch to a ceremony or reception. The possibilities for these glittery gems are truly endless!

Flowers

A touch of vintage sparkle is the perfect compliment to any floral design. Contemporary or traditional, all wedding flower arrangements can be punched up with the addition one (or several!) brooches. Attach them to blooms, ribbons, or stems of flowers in centerpieces, on top of napkins, or in a bouquet. They won't detract from the arrangement; instead, they will add a oodles of character to your flowers! A few bold brides are even creating all-brooch bouquets!

Table Decor

Press brooches into inexpensive candles for a high-end look. Attach them to napkin rings for added embellishment, or lay them intermittently down the center of the table among centerpieces and candles for a glittery, elegant effect.

Wedding Attire

Creative brides are adorning their hair, dresses, and bridal party with brooches. Attach them to hair combs for a vintage look, or create a small cluster on a sash around the waist; brooches add romance to any style.  Small ones can even be used on the groom's boutonniere. Brooches can take a wedding ensemble from plain to modern classic.

They don't have to match, and they cost next to nothing. Brooches are the perfect addition to any wedding design, thanks to their versatility and charm. Picking up a little nostalgia is a modern way to make your wedding day special!

That's right. Look through any bridal publication and you'll see throngs of wedding gown photos. The other stand out attention grabber is the stylish amount of sequins, beadwork, and crystals dangling from the bodice of each gown. While some trendy wedding gowns feature intricate beadwork from the breast to the train, many others include the detailing in a more confined area. Either way, you'll be hard pressed to find a trendy wedding gown without fashionable bling.

Consider empire waist wedding dresses. What better to draw attention to the style of the dress than a row of beautiful Swarovski crystals, intricate beadwork, colorful jeweled ribbon or some other stylish accessory? For most empire wedding dresses, it's this accessorizing that makes or breaks the gown.

It's not just empire style wedding dresses that receive this special treatment. Wedding dresses that sparkle and shine under the weight of their wedding accessories can be found in a wide range of styles. A-line wedding dresses are especially prone to featuring detailing from bodice to train. This allows the eye to trail the length of the dress. In other words, guests must take in the full affect of the beautiful dress and the gorgeous bride who wears it.

Mermaid wedding dresses aren't as prone to this type of detailing. Ruching is more popular with mermaid wedding dresses but jewel-esque accessories aren't without a wedding dress in this style either. You may have to look harder but they're out there.

While you're most likely to find stylish wedding dresses like these in a-line, empire and column wedding gowns, you'll have a difficult time finding a trendy wedding gown without some sort of accessorizing. We all know that brides like to feel beautiful and diamonds are a girl's best friend. Merge the two into an incredible wedding dress and the only thing missing is the "I do."

Next to choosing a dress, choosing a wedding hairstyle for your wedding day is the biggest decision a bride must make. It is not exactly rocket science; up, down, or half up are the three basic hairstyles. With bridal tiaras, hair pins, wedding jewelry, and veils, we must use the wedding hairstyle to tie in all of the accessories in a classic fashion.

Wedding Hairstyles Meet Fashion and Accessories

When deciding how to wear your hair on your wedding day there are many different variables to consider.  First, and most important, is the style of wedding dress you have chosen and the neckline that it portrays. Depending on whether the dress is strapless, sweetheart cut, v-neck, or scoop neck, the hairstyle you choose for your wedding day may be changed.

If you are wearing a strapless wedding dress on your wedding day, and want to expose the collarbone and neckline of the dress, an up-do would be the best option to present the silhouette of the shoulders. Although up-do's are great for strapless dresses, wearing the hair down is very classic and also looks fabulous against the strapless neckline.

Sweetheart necklines are romantic and elegant in nature and look fabulous with a hairstyle that eludes soft curls falling from a half-up hairstyle. This hairstyle is very natural and when done with loose curls is very loving and romantic; perfect for the wedding day! Dresses with straps or sleeves are most elegantly accompanied by a classic up-do. In this case it all depends on how much of the fabric is detailed around the shoulders and neckline of the dress.

Plan Ahead For An Incredibly Beautiful Wedding Hairstyle

On your wedding day, a bride wants to feel as though she stepped out of a fairytale storybook, where everything, including her hair, is perfect. This is why it is so important to meet with your hair stylist in advance and discuss ideas and have a few practice runs before the big day. This ensures that everything on the day of the wedding runs smoothly and you are not disappointed with the final result.

Coming to a final decision on what hairstyle to go with on the wedding day may take quite a bit of thinking and coordinating with other bridal accessories such as the bridal veil and wedding jewelry. The most important thing to remember is when choosing a wedding hairstyle, it is best to look as natural as possible. Find a hairstyle that is similar to how you wear your hair day to day. The key is to look like a more beautiful, you on your wedding day; not someone who you aren't.

Coordination Is Key To Great Wedding Hairstyles

At your first appointment with the hairstylist, it is suggested that all brides bring a picture of flowers, the dress, any accessories you may be wearing, and maybe a few pictures of the ceremony decorations so the stylist can get an idea of the overall style of the wedding scenery.

The wedding hair stylist will be the most help to you in deciding which hairstyle is best suited for you. However, it is always best to take a friend or family member to the first hair appointment for advice in making a decision.

The wedding theme plays a large factor in selecting a wedding hairstyle and personal wedding accessories. Whimsical wedding decorations with flowing fabrics, delicate flowers, and feminine touches bring out a romantic ambiance that calls for simple but elegant wedding hairstyles and wedding accessories. More modern wedding decorations with bold colors and inventive décor call for more modern, edgy wedding accessories and up-do's. With pictures of the wedding décor, flowers, and wedding accessories, the hair stylist will be able to help you figure out which hair style is best for your wedding day.

Practice Makes Perfect Wedding Day Hair

You never see an athlete run a race without at least one practice run beforehand, or an opera singer bring down the house without rehearsing several times. To make sure everything runs smoothly on the actual wedding day, it is suggested that every bride have a trial run a few weeks before the wedding day. This means going through all the preparation phases: hair, make-up, and getting the dress on.

First of all, you want to make sure that the bobby pins and hair spray will be able to hold your wedding hairstyle for the length of time that the ceremony and wedding festivities will last. It would be terrible for you to arrive at the ceremony with your up-do unraveling as fast as you can say "I do". Secondly, you want to make sure you are comfortable. You may love a hairstyle the first few minutes of it being fixed, but after four hours of bobby pins pulling your hair in a million different directions you may have second thoughts. To make sure you are comfortable on your wedding day, have a trial run.

Pre-Wedding Pictures Are A Snap (And Helpful!)

Have you ever looked in the mirror and thought "Wow, I look good!" and then reflected on pictures of that same night and hated them? Photos don’t always capture what you want them to which is why the pre-wedding picture session is so necessary. Pictures are a very important part of your wedding day. This is why it is so important to make sure wedding hair and accessories are perfect. What better way to assure your wedding photos are fabulous than to have a pre-wedding picture party? This could be done when bridal photos are taken, or just as a simple trial wedding photo session. By doing this you can rearrange wedding accessories, flowers, tiaras, and any other hair décor that might need to be adjusted for photos on the actual wedding day.

Selecting a wedding hairstyle can be a stressor, but as long as you follow these simple suggestions, you are sure to be confidently stunning on your big day. Choosing your wedding day hairstyle is the hardest part of the process, so when the big day comes, just sit back, relax, and enjoy being pampered on your wedding day!

Choosing the Perfect Perfume for Your Wedding Day

It’s finally here – your wedding day. You’ve waited for this day since you were a little girl, playing dress-up and trailing pillow cases, bed sheets, and tablecloths off the back of your head and your mother’s perfume dabbed behind your ears. You imagined the groom would be that little Johnny Johnson next door and never gave a thought to any life beyond your wedding day.

You’re no little girl anymore and Johnny Johnson moved away a long time ago. This time, the wedding is real. You’ve planned every detail: the music, the flowers, the dresses, and the cake. You’ve sent invitations and chosen your bridesmaids. You are getting ready for the most important day of your life. Your maid of Continue reading "Wedding Perfume Tips" »
