So you're engaged? Amazing! Congratulations! How exciting! When are you going to get married? What kind of wedding do you want? All the questions that you will be bombarded with when you announce your engagement to friends and family. The problem? You don't have a clue on what you want, what to do and where to begin. People don't realize how many details, big and small, that are included when planning a wedding. There's a certain wedding time line that must be followed along with a million other questions that must be considered and answered. So here's is a little helpful post on where to begin to get you started. From here, you'll be able to plan the wedding of your dreams.

A Grand Announcement:The first thing step is easy. Announce it. You want all your friends and family to know your big news, so tell them. Tell them about your funny, unique, romantic or traditional marriage proposal. Of course, you'll be slammed with those same questions, but simply reply, "We haven't discussed any of the details yet". That simple. Share this extremely joyous time with your close friends and family. Enjoy it!

Just Imagine: Start with planning out how you want your wedding day. Your wedding day theme and style should be based on you. Have you always imagined a pink and green wedding? Well, that should be it. Your wedding style should be based on yours and the groom. So, research, research and do more researching.

Budget, Budget, Budget: Before you can do anything, you must sit down and discuss your wedding budget. Otherwise, you could be overspending or underspending for your wedding. Discuss who will pay for it. Will it be you, your parents, him or his parents? Will you split the costs up between each other? Whatever you decide on, you must do that first. Then you can start planning all the little wedding details based around your wedding budget.

Location: Next item to check off your agenda, location. Find a site within your budget and that sets the style of your wedding. Your location can range to a destination wedding to a traditional church that you grew up in. Choose one that best fits your style. Once you find one, book it! Wedding locations can be booked pretty quick. So grab your site and your reception location while you can, just to ensure that you have it.

Everything In Between: Next, all the little wedding details you must not look over. Caterers, bakery, wedding photographer, wedding videographer, musical entertainment, wedding dress, florist, stationary, wedding rentals, wedding decorations and then some will be exactly what you need on your wedding day.

Go to tastings, visit different stores, look at different pictures and anything that will help you decide on which wedding vendor you want to use.You must trust these vendors to handle all your wedding day needs and absolutely LOVE what you have picked out. It is your wedding day and you DO NOT want to be disappointed.

Don't forget to ask these vendors for references, review their contracts, ask them questions and see if they fit within your budget. Your wedding vendors will be responsible for making all your wedding dreams come true, so putting your trust within them is a must.

The Big Day: Now, it's time to relax and enjoy. You've spent all your time and energy planning your dream wedding. So don't stress anymore. Enjoy it!

Hope these wedding planning tips help. Enjoy your big day and enjoy it to the fullest!

He popped the question, and you said yes. Now you get to plan the wedding of your dreams. You have ideas for the kind of wedding you want, but aren’t quite sure where to start.

Along with the excitement about your wedding comes a lot of questions:

Where to have the ceremony? The reception? Which flowers are in-season? Who pays for the flowers, the reception, the honeymoon? How do you arrange seating to deal with sticky family situations? Suddenly, you find yourself in a panic with more questions than answers. Who do you turn to for help?

Take a deep breath and relax. Planning your wedding doesn’t have to be overwhelming or stressful. You can actually enjoy the process and have a stress-free wedding day. Hiring a wedding planner will make all the difference when it comes to pulling all the pieces together to make your wedding day dreams a reality.

What Is A Wedding Planner?

A wedding planner is a professional who assists the bride and groom in planning their wedding and executing those plans. They are also referred to as wedding consultants and event coordinators. In reality, they do much more than just provide a professional service.

They know the latest trends in weddings, what works and what doesn’t, and how to come up with contingency plans for emergencies. They are a combination of mom, cheerleader, therapist, and best friend—always knowing the right thing to say and do at the right time. Hiring a wedding planner can mean the difference between a stressed-out, frazzled, anxious bride and a calm, relaxed bride who truly enjoys her wedding day.

Wedding planners generally offer different types of services or packages:

1) Day-of-Service/Day-of-Wedding Planner/Day-Of-Coordinator

2) Consulting/A La Carte/ Getting Started/Month-Of-Direction

3) Full-Service Planning

What A Day-Of-Service Planner Does

Day-Of-Service Planners will typically help the couple with a wedding day timeline; confirm vendors (photographer, videographer, florist, caterer, etc.); and follow the timeline from start to finish on the wedding day. The Day-Of-Wedding Planner coordinates the wedding day activities only. The bride and groom are responsible for making all the arrangements, but the day-of-service wedding planner will make sure everything happens as planned.

What A Wedding Consultant Does

Wedding Consultants will offer recommendations for venues and vendors, offer advice on colors and style, provide etiquette advice, and help the couple stay on track with their timeline. However they will not do the legwork or handle small details.

On the wedding day the wedding consultant will interact with vendors and ensure that the day goes as planned. A consultant is the perfect choice for the "hands-on" bride, who really doesn’t want to relinquish control of the wedding day plans. The wedding consultant is an invaluable resource for the bride who doesn’t have time to research all the details herself, but wants to make the arrangements and do the planning herself.

In fact, wedding consultants offer services like A La Carte, Getting Started and Month-Of-Direction. With the A La Carte Service, a bride can hire a consultant who will assist them with wedding dress selection, venue, cake, or color selection only. A consultant's expertise and experience will make the bride's job easier and go much more smoothly.

What A Full Service Wedding Planner Does

Full-Service Wedding Planners help determine the wedding style and colors, choose invitations, find venues for the ceremony and reception, recommend vendors and screen contracts, and accompany the couple to food and cake tastings.

Some will even send invitations and track RSVP’s.  On the wedding day, the planner is there from start to finish: troubleshooting, handling last-minute details and keeping the event on schedule.

Problems invariably arise on the day of the wedding, and having a wedding planner to handle these problems instead of the bride is a great service.

A good wedding planner will know the bride well enough to anticipate how she would handle sticky situations and will represent the bride and groom well.

Why Do I Need a Wedding Planner?

Many brides want to be in control of every detail of their wedding day. They feel the only way to ensure success is if they handle it all themselves. But, in reality, a bride needs to just "be the bride" on her wedding day.

It is unrealistic for a bride to think she can be getting pictures made and overseeing the caterer, so being able to entrust someone else with the minutiae of the day is essential. Many brides have full-time jobs, as well as full lives. Planning and carrying out all the details of a wedding can seem like a job in itself. That’s why you need help from a professional wedding planner.

What Does a Wedding Planner Cost?

Costs vary by region. According to The Wedding Report, the average costs for a single wedding are as follows:

  • A La Carte $851
  • Day-Of-Services/Day-Of-Coordinator $699
  • For Getting Started $649
  • Full-Service $1,940
  • Month-Of-Direction $995

These costs are just a guideline.  In some areas, the minimum for a Day-Of-Wedding Planner can be as high as $1,500 and $5,000 for a Full-service wedding planner.

How Do I Find A Great Wedding Planner?

• Talk to friends and relatives who have recently gotten married. Even if they didn’t use a wedding planner, they may have heard recommendations for top-notch wedding planners.

• Talk to vendors (photographers, bridal salons or caterers) who frequently work with wedding planners. Set up meetings with wedding planners to see who best suits your needs, budget and personality. Ask lots of questions and ask for references. Always call the references to see what other brides have experienced working with particular planners.

• Start looking for a wedding planner as early as possible. Many weddings are booked months or years in advance.

Wedding planners aren’t just for Hollywood celebrities. They aren’t just for big-budget weddings. They are accessible and affordable for every bride. Their professionalism, knowledge of the wedding industry, advice on getting the most for your money and can-do attitude will contribute to the most memorable day of your life.

Every little girl dreams of her big day; no detail is spared. CC Floral Designs in Rhode Island is an expert at interpreting those visions into a gorgeous display of creativity.

Event designer Carol Carpentier knows how each flower can bring back a special memoryl. The smell of a rose can signal happy thoughts of times past. Maybe tiger lilies bring back the memories of ones grown in their grandmother's garden. Carol understands the importance of these tiny details.  For these reasons, she gave up her flower shop (where she worked for some 20 years) and decided to redirect her creativity and expertise on a larger scale with event decor.

Listening to a customer's vision of their wedding or event inspires Carol to create something uniquely personal — bringing those dreams to life beyond expectations. Extraordinary bridal bouquets, centerpieces and floral arrangements are what brides experience when they work with Carol at CC Floral Designs.

Exceptional event and wedding flowers are just one of the many essential services CC Floral Designs has to offer.  A specially tailored plan that coordinates the bride's wedding vision with a range of styles to create the ultimate day is what wedding planning is all about. CC Floral Designs planning service does just this and more.  They are able to provide experienced event consultation services and the individual attention you need to really enhance your big day.

From coordinating a small aspect to planning the whole event, Carol and her team take the weight off your shoulders. With options like a set-up service, the stress of wedding decorations will be one less thing you need to worry about.  By using their wedding planning serivces chair covers and sash rentals are no longer a hassle. Whether a formal elegant indoor affair to a splendid outdoor garden ceremony, CC Floral Deisgns strive to make  your wedding and reception fit for the princess you are!

Ask The Celebration Advisor: I need to know who can make me a Halloween wedding cake, as well as favors and Ideas, and decoratons for my wedding. Most particularly the cake. for 200ppl? and a price in Calgary. Thank you. ~ Carmen Turning Robe, Calgary Alberta Canada

Celebration Advisor: Of course you can find all of that and other great wedding supplies in Calgary AB!

In fact, I know of a few places where you can find theme cakes, wedding cakes and (imagine this) theme wedding cakes in Calgary. For starters, try Cake Creations. They're incredible! Their wedding cakes are elegant regardless of the theme. All you have to do is ask! Theme cakes as well as wedding cakes come in all shapes and sizes so be specific about what you want. Just let your wedding cake bakery know the size, general theme, and amount of people eating the cake and you're good to go!

As far as wedding favors and ideas go, that's greatly dependent upon the type of ceremony that you are having. It sounds like you're having a really fun Halloween wedding–congrats! That sounds like so much fun! I would start by speaking with the professionals at Claudia's Mementos. Though not located in Calgary, wedding favors from here are bound to be awesome. They always do an incredible job of hooking you up with the wedding favors that YOU want.

If you want a cool idea to start with for your wedding favors, try this one that my friend is using at her Halloween wedding this year. Our wedding favors are placeholders which are going to be little skulls, monsters, and ghosts with our names written on their heads. It took her a long time to choose those over chocolate cupcakes with vanilla icing decorated like webbing and our names written in red icing over that. Somehow I knew she'd go with the haunted cemetery wedding favors instead! *grin* I'm sure these will taste great with the wedding cake. Have guests bring a sweet tooth!

Wedding decorations aren't quite as tricky. The only thing you really need to figure out is whether you want this to be more like a Halloween wedding or a Halloween party. If you're wanting the more upscale, ask a local Calgary wedding planner to help you come up with something that will celebrate the holiday and the occasion at the same time. If you want more of a party atmosphere, go all out with black tablecloths, creepy decorative lighting, blood-colored punch and other party foods, jack-o-lanterns and other spooky decorations. It just takes a little imagination! If you want some ideas, check out these great Halloween party pictures.

Together, your choices of wedding cakes, wedding favors, and wedding decorations is immense when you use the local  wedding suppliers that you have right there in Calgary!

Thanks for your question Carmen. I look forward to seeing the pictures of your wedding!

When planning a wedding—whether large, small or in-between—a great wedding planning tip is to have an organizer to keep track of all the details—and I’m not talking about your wedding planner. Although even If you’re working with a wedding planner, it’s important to keep your own record of what you discuss and agree upon. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking you have it all in your head and can remember all the details. The true is as the big day approaches and the stress builds, some of those "little" details may slip out of Continue reading "Organize Your Big Day to Keep Stress Away" »
