Who Else Wants Unique Wedding Decoration Ideas?

December 1st, 2008 - Posted by Jordon Robinson

I always find things that are done differently than the standard so interesting and exciting. Weddings in particular usually have a pretty standard decorating regiment: flowers, candles, centerpieces and ice sculptures. Though using these items to decorate for wedding festivities can be beautiful, quite frankly, it just gets a little boring sometimes. I went to a wedding a few weekends ago that blew me away. Not with the elaboration or amount of money that was spent, but by the unique beauty of the atmosphere that was created for this ceremony.

There was not a flower in the place except for the ones the bride and her bridesmaids were holding. (And that is crazy for a wedding ceremony!) The wedding itself was held in a small chapel. Decorations were minimal but very elegant. The colors used were gold (yes shimmery gold), turquoise, and brown. There were touches of deep purples and magentas as well. For the wedding reception, they used small tree limbs or twigs (free might I add) and spray painted them gold. They suspended these limbs from the ceiling at all different levels with string creating a canopy effect. This simple decorating idea set the mood for the whole room. It seems simple I know, but it was absolutely chic, elegant and natural all rolled into one room.

The tables were draped with deep turquoise tablecloths and placed with gold tableware and brown napkins. The centerpieces were created with an assortment of spray painted twigs, peacock feathers, beads and decorative rocks at the bottom of the vases.  Simple touches like peacock feathers in the hair of the bridesmaids added to the chicness of it all. The big centerpiece for the serving table looked like a massive gold tree. They used the spray painted twigs and limbs to create this "tree" and hung gold, turquoise, and other jewel toned ornaments from them. If I were to guess, this wedding reception probably did not cost them anymore than $1000. I have been to my fair share of weddings, and this was by far the most beautiful one I have ever been a part of.

So as you decide how to decorate your wedding and reception, think outside the box. You might just create the wedding of the season.
