Vacuum Freeze-Drying Preservation Process
The vacuum freeze-dry method is an almost perfect process in preserving your
wedding bouquet. The vacuum freeze dryer slowly extracts all moisture, maintaining the flower's natural size and unique shape preserving your wedding bouquet exactly as it was on your special day. Using this process, all moisture is removed from the flowers at extremely low temperatures (as low as -40 F degrees) under a vacuum. It takes approximately two weeks to complete the preservation process.
Freeze drying is not a new process; however, some new developments in this technology have become available over the past few years. New pre-treatment methods allow for the capture of true color, which can be maintained. Even with this new technology, slight color changes will occur in all flowers. Over time colors take a softer Victorian look with white turning to ivory, red to burgundy, etc. In most cases the wedding bouquet or flower arrangement is photographed several times then taken apart carefully so each flower can be rehydrated and pre-treated accordingly. Ribbons, pins, or wedding bouquet accessories are removed, as well, for cleaning and pressing.
If there is not immediate space in the freeze dryer, the wedding bouquets are placed in holding freezers to maintain integrity. Once the flowers have gone through the freeze drying process, they are treated with a clear coating that helps protect against humidity and sunlight. Most wedding bouquet preservation vendors have nation wide service, where bouquets are shipped before and after the preservation process. Find a
