Types of Orchestras
A full size orchestra is usually fairly large, with a string section, a brass section, a woodwind section, and possibly a percussion section as well. This full-sized orchestra is sometimes referred to as a symphony orchestra. This type of orchestra is reserved for very large, elegant events with hundreds of guests. Symphony orchestras are usually located in larger cities, which may limit your selection of orchestras significantly. Depending on the guest list, large-scale wedding receptions or celebrations might warrant the need for a symphony orchestra.
A smaller orchestra is referred to as a chamber orchestra. This orchestra is composted of forty or less performers and is an appropriate size for most wedding receptions and mid-size parties. The chamber orchestra is still a substantial
musical entertainment presence adding elegance and refinement to the atmosphere.
Various orchestras despite size are referred to as instrumental ensembles. Depending on the orchestra, they may have a select group of ten to twelve players available to play for smaller, more intimate events.
