Anniversary Party Planning
Celebrating an anniversary is a milestone event for any couple. If you find yourself in charge of making plans for this type of party, consider these tips and ideas.
Type, Size and Budget
First, determine the type of party appropriate for the couple. A casual party or a more formal affair can be held depending on the preferences of the guests of honor. A budget needs to be considered and may help in making those types of decisions. You need to determine how large the party will be, as this will affect your location and cost. Let the couple make a guest list, including children, family and friends of their choice.
Date, Time and Place
Next, a date, time, and place must be selected for the party. It is a bonus if the party can be held on the actual anniversary date, but this must be coordinated with the couple. The place may be an outdoor location, a local venue, a church, or even your own home.
Invitations, Theme and Decorations
Once the details are nailed down, send out the invitations at least two weeks in advance. These can be store bought, handmade or printed professionally. Wherever you choose to host the party, you might select a theme relating to where the couple was married or where they went on their honeymoon. Identify a hobby or activity that connects them and use that as a springboard for ideas. If you want to keep it simple, look up the traditional anniversary gift for that particular year. For example, the 25th year anniversary gift is silver, and the flower is the Iris. Use those elements to decorate and accessorize. Flowers, balloons, confetti or other decor is up to you, depending on the time, budget and the space. It is always nice to display wedding photos along with other pictures of the couple through the years.
Food
The party food served at your anniversary celebration will depend on your location and budget. Hire a caterer, cook a special meal yourself, or perhaps have family members help with the preparations. Consider your theme or a favorite meal of the couple when deciding on your menu. Usually a cake is served at anniversary gatherings. In recent years, bakeries have become creative with cake designs, and this could be a signature item on your food table. Of course a favorite family recipe would also be appropriate in this instance. Think about your guests, your venue, and the time that your party takes place when you make your food plans.
Entertainment and Activities
When you are planning the party events, there are many options to consider. For music, you can hire a band or musician, or simply play music of your choice in the background. Pictures are a must, and a professional photographer may be hired, or a family member can be enlisted to serve as photographer. Another option would be to have disposable cameras on tables to allow guests to capture candid photos. Speak to the guests of honor about their interest in renewing their wedding vows or providing pictures for a slide show. If their wedding video is available, it could be set up for viewing. As a special memento of the party, have a framed picture, memory book or other item that guests can sign as a tribute to the guests of honor.
Special Considerations
If your couple of honor and many of your guests are older, consider that in your planning. A party during the day might be a better choice. Think about a location that is not difficult to access with many stairs or other obstacles. Make sure plenty of seating is available for guests. Younger couples may enjoy an evening party with dancing or games. Talk to them and determine what type of party they would enjoy before making your plans.
With a little creative planning, you can host an anniversary party that will be memorable and fun! With your focus on the couple of honor, it will be the perfect way to celebrate their special day.
Party Planning for 2015
With an entire year of parties behind us, another one has begun and it's never too early to start planning for a celebration. Sit down with your calendar and figure out which holidays & events you have for 2015. Once you have your 2015 calendar planned, take some quick and easy steps to make sure you begin the year ahead of schedule.
Planning is Key
A party can be overwhelming if you don’t plan in advance. Start your planning by blocking out an afternoon by spending quality time with your calendar. You will guarantee the holidays won’t sneak up on you.
By thinking this early, you can start shopping early for decorations, start finding vendors and even give the kids a little excitement.
Make a Brainstorm Notebook
This notebook will be where you can store ideas and inspiration, guests lists and to-do lists. With it all in one place, you will know where to put your ideas when you feel inspired. Simply write down a handful of key words about what you are planning to do for each holiday so you don't forget any ideas that come to mind.
Lock Down a Theme
Perhaps one of the first things to do after marking down the holidays that you'll be planning for is deciding on a theme.
For example, if you want to plan something for Mother's Day or Father's Day, ponder the special people you will be celebrating. What are things they enjoy? How can I incorporate that into their celebration?
Another example is if your child wants a Batman birthday in August, you have enough months to slowly accumulate party items such as themed plates, cups, gifts, etc.
If you know what direction you are going in, then you can easily start buying the perfect items for your event.
Start a Party Fund
Start setting aside money for your celebrations in the year ahead. It can go towards any festivity you have planned for the upcoming year. Small amounts of money here and there will make a huge difference if unexpected expenses arise while you are in the thick of planning. Keep adding to it consistently and the fund will be particularly helpful during the year.
These party planning tips will truly help your events be the best they can be in 2015! Happy planning and don’t forget to share your parties with Wedding and Party Network.

As the temperature rises, so does the cravings for corn dogs, pool days, and fireworks. It's never too early to prepare for that Fourth of July party you've always wanted to throw. Wedding & Party Network has your four must have DIYs for this year's best Fourth of July Bash.
It's not a Fourth of July party without the sparklers, especially if there are lots of them! Get a pack, fill a small silver bucket and decorate with ribbon and streamers. *Note: make sure to keep lighters or matches away from the reach of children.
2. Ice, Ice, Baby.
There is no escaping the July heat, but stay cool with specialty ice. Fill ice trays with blueberries and strawberry slices, add water, and freeze. These are perfect to put the finishing touch to party drinks.
3. Much More than a Jar
There is much you can do with mason jars and at this party you can use them as a silverware caddy and drink glasses. Get enough mason jars for each guest. Fill them with a red, white, or blue bandanna (as their napkin) and a spoon, fork, and knife. Each guest has their silverware and drink glass all in one.
Nothing goes better with your Fourth of July feast than some fresh watermelon. Make it festive by cutting thin slices and, using a number four cookie cutter, cutting little 4s out of the fruit. They will be much easier to munch on and your guests will be impressed with your attention to detail.

10 Ways To Plan The Perfect Party For Your Princess
Every little girl likes to feel special on her birthday, and you know your little princess deserves to have a special day full of wonder and excitement. But if you find yourself a little apprehensive about throwing a party, Wedding and Party Network is here to help.
Here are 10 easy tips to make your little girl's birthday party a royal flush!
#1. Pick A Theme She Loves
Make this choice hers and hers alone. No reusing her sister's Dora the Explorer stuff just because you are tired of storing it. Don't let her older brothers make fun of what she chooses (at least not in front of her!) Let her pick something she likes. You can make suggestions if she gets stuck but be sure the final idea is all hers and that she is excited about it.
#2. Invite the Right Amount of Guests
This will depend on your party space, the number of adults that will be available to pitch in and your daughter's own temperament. If she does well in big groups, the more the merrier! But if she is shy and easily overwhelmed, keep the guest list to a small group of close friends and family. It is easy to fall into the trap of inviting more kids than you think will attend because you "owe" them (their parents) an invite but be realistic about how much space you have to entertain and which adults are truly up for helping you out.
#3. Get Adult Volunteers That Know What They Are In For
Speaking of helping out, this is a big one. If you want to get through this party with your sanity, don't try to do too much yourself and don't push responsibilities onto a friend or family member that truly can't commit the time. Be upfront about needing help, how long the party will last and what they will be expected to do. Before the party, plan specific tasks for each person. Don't try to wing it or something is bound to be forgotten. And certainly don't forget that this party trick you are asking for puts you in the line of fire to return the favor at some point.
#4. Princess Prep Time
If you need some time to get dinner or an activity ready, this is a good moment to play up some princess necessities like getting ready for the big party. This is where a fort in the living room comes in handy. Girls can play with some pretend makeup or the real thing if you have an adult volunteer while you make last minute arrangements to make the night run smoothly.
#5. Have Dinner and Dessert Separate
Even though you are thinking it would be easier to get the messy food and cake out of the way all at once, remember that too much too soon with all that excitement can take a toll on little ones. No one wants a bellyache to slow down the action 5 minutes after leaving the table. So plan to have a light easy dinner then plan an activity before the big cake moment happens. Opening presents is a good choice. Lots of excitement for your birthday girl, but everyone else is, more or less, sitting down watching and digesting before the sugar rush to come.
#6. The Present Trap
While older kids might not venture into tantrum territory, younger children often have trouble understanding why they aren't privy to any of this present business. Try to talk to parents and see if younger children can start playing outside or in another room if this is a possible problem. You could also choose to open presents after the party if there is concern about gifts being shared, broken or lost. And one thing that never disappoints at any kid party is a well crafted goody bag for each child. While you don't have to spend a lot on these to make them special, do made an effort to wrap them festively and include some unexpected items like small toys, collectible erasers, sidewalk chalk or other highly coveted items. This can easily take the place of present opening chaos.
#7. Budget-minded Fun
While it's fantastic that the boy down the street had pony rides last summer, that doesn't mean you have to try and one-up someone else's special event. Plan activities that will be fun for your child on any budget. Does she love to color and make stuff? Have a station for the kids to decorate their own party hats. Up for a little adventure? A scavenger hunt is perfect to get everyone exploring together. Love music? Set aside time for karaoke or dance party. Have a Wii or XBox? Play a tournament style game and give out small prizes to the winners and candy treats to all that participated.
#8. Plan Activities… But Not Too Many
A bad mistake is to think that the kids have to be 100% entertained every second of the party. Plan some unstructured time to just play with the new toys or twirl around in party dresses. If you have a magician coming or a bouncy house ready to ambush, don't rush from one activity to the next just to squeeze it all in. Make sure each activity has a little breathing room so there is time for chatter, impromptu dances and a few snapshots to occur. Otherwise, you'll find yourself barking orders all night just to "stay on schedule."
#9. Never Underestimate The Power Of TV
While you might think it's a party so who would want to sit still and watch a movie, the answer is you! Plan to have a special viewing of something you know will be a hit. Maybe it's something that was just released or an old princess favorite like Cinderella. Start it up, pop a big bowl of popcorn and turn out all the lights to give the girls a theater-like experience while you use the time to regroup. Even if you only get 10 minutes to pick up the kitchen and 30 seconds of downtime before you have to join Continue reading "10 Ways To Plan The Perfect Party For Your Princess" »

But get creative! Have a favorite quote or something that would tie into your party theme? Spell it out with a banner.
- Take a look at these free Halloween fonts! Pick your favorite and print out your letters. Use a whole page for a large banner or half a page for a smaller one.
- You can trim each letter and back it with slightly bigger scrapbook paper to create a colored border.
- Hole-punch each top corner and string through with some ribbon or twine.

Pumpkin Decor
There are so much more to pumpkins than just carving!
While carving a pumpkin is a great tradition and there are many amazing ways to be creative with cut designs, don't overlook the beauty and mystery of different pumpkin varieties.
Hit up your local farmer's market or pumpkin patch for some more unusual types than what you find at the grocery store. You can use pumpkins to create a great centerpiece, accent a shelf, or line your walkway. The possibilities are endless and they will last all season. Let nature show off with these colorful and highly textured pumpkin varieties.
Upcycled Display Jars
Add a touch of witch-y elegance to your party snacks with these display jars. Stuff with your favorite Halloween treats like candy, cookies and especially anything colorful that will add to your table.
- Remove the labels from jars of different shapes and sizes.
- Use a nail and a hammer to punch a small hole in the lid.
- Screw on a drawer pull or knob from your local home improvement store.
- Paint the lids and knobs with black, orange, green, purple or whatever color fits your theme.
Voilà! Not only have you upcycled some beautiful glass but you've helped build a tablescape perfect for anything you have brewing in the cauldron.
Finishing Touch Ideas
Use cotton "spiderwebs" to stretch over your existing decor. This a fast and easy way to give everything in the room a haunted touch without a lot of work. Remember the thinner and more wispy you can pull the webs – draping them across objects and connecting from high points to low points – the more realistic they will look. Suddenly your packed bookshelf, framed photos, and lamps are now part of the party decor.
Change the lighting in your bathroom. Put a eerie green light in the fixture over the shower. Hang a paper lantern decked out with bat silhouettes. Place a dozen tea lights or jar candles in front of the mirror. Choose whatever works best for your space. By adding this extra touch in a place where party guests are most likely to stop and notice the decor, you will really tie the atmosphere of your event together.
Place black paper silhouettes in windows, then cover with colored tissue paper for a simple glowing effect! As your party-goers or trick-or-treaters arrive, windows filled with fun images – spiky monsters, black cats, twisted tree branches, witches – and illuminated by your indoor lights make a welcoming sight on Halloween night.
Faux cobbwebs, colored lights and ghostly cutouts are simple ways to transform your house into Halloweentown. Find your closest party store here.
With your house totally party-prepped, you'll be ready for all the excitement October 31st brings with it. Enjoy this fun holiday!

Fall Into An Autumn Party
Sorry summer and spring. Move it, winter. My favorite season, by far, is autumn. Turning leaves, snuggle-inducing sweaters, warm drinks and Halloween are just a few of my favorite things to do and celebrate. There is no doubt that being outside, wrapped in a scarf and watching the leaves blow in the wind makes for a perfect day in my mind.
The first official day of Fall (also called the Autumn Equinox if you want to get technical) is coming up on September 22nd. Share all the warmth and happiness of this lovely season with your friends by hosting an Autumn Party this month!
Warm & Cozy Party Ideas
Backyard Bonfire
Gather around the fire pit with good music and stories to share. Enjoy the crisp night air and the smell of burning wood as you take in the stars with your guests.
What To Do
If you or a friend has any musical ability, play a few sing-a-long songs to add a traditional camp feel to your evening. Of course, there are plenty of group songs that can be sung with no musical accompaniment but I think that depends on how brave you are in leading your guests.
Scary stories are also a staple, even if you just decide to laugh about urban legends you can recall.
If you think this sounds sorta cheesy, embrace it! You'll be surprised at how everyone will enjoy a classic campfire night. It will be a totally new experience for some and others will be transported back to camp memories of their youth.
How To Decorate
Your bonfire will be the focus of your party, that's for sure. Surround the area with lawn chairs and set up a snack and drink table nearby. Set the tone with a checkered tablecloth. Place tea lights in mason jars to provide warm points of flickering light after the sun goes down.
Use any enamelware camping gear you have to offer up your party food. If you don't have enough tin mugs to go around, use them to hold your napkins or cutlery. Pick up a camping lantern to add charm and help light the path from your house to the gathering.
What To Serve
Nothing could be better than crunching into warm freshly toasted s'more around a fire! Hand out roasting forks or wooden skewers to your guests and offer up big stacks of graham crackers, marshmallows and chocolate for the best of bonfire traditions.
For an easy and memorable drink, try our delicious Slow Cooker Hot Chocolate! Just mix it up before you start decorating and by the time your guests arrive it will be creamy and perfect. Serve with marshmallows and happy sipping!
Slow Cooker Hot Chocolate
- 6 cups milk – Skim or 2%
- 1.5 cups heavy whipping cream
- (1) 14oz can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 2 cups of chocolate chips – milk chocolate or semi-sweet
Place all ingredients into a 5 quart slow cooker set on low. Heat for 2 hours. Whisk every half hour to blend melted chocolate. Serves 6 to 10
Optional Add-ins
- Baileys Irish Cream
- mint liqueur
- ground chipotle chile pepper
- brewed coffee or espresso
Sunset Watching Party
Pick a place with a good view of the horizon – your backyard, a hillside or park – and have a picnic! You and guests can toast the colorful setting sun as it brings ever shorter fall days.
What To Do
Start this gathering an hour or so before the actual time the sun is scheduled to set. Listen to music, watch colored leaves fall and take photos in the glorious afternoon light. Then to wrap it up, sit back and relax on blankets as the sky slowly starts to change from blue to purple to pink.
This is a great way to catch up with friends you haven't seen in awhile or reconnect to those you see often but only get to scratch the surface with.
How To Decorate
Part of the appeal of this party is the easy no-fuss aspect. Consider the magic hour with the setting sun your party backdrop. Bring bright blankets for relaxing on the grass. A nearby picnic table, with a tablecloth in your favorite color, will be a good place to arrange snacks and drinks.
Don't forget to bring a trash bag to keep things clean and a flashlight in case you stay a little later because you are enjoying yourself so much.
What To Serve
Picnics are typically cold cut affairs. So surprise guests with some hot appetizers! Make meatballs or dip in a travel-ready slowcooker or a covered casserole dish. Even chili is easy to serve at a picnic and compliments the cooler weather. Offer crackers, chips and fresh veggies for dipping. Serve craft beer or wine to stay warm on the inside while kicking back and taking in the brisk evening air.
What says Fall more than pumpkins? Host a get-together for the craft-lover in all.
What To Do
Have guests bring their own pumpkins to decorate and provide brushes, tape, glue, paints and glitter to make awesome fall decor that gets noticed. Painted pumpkins, glittery pumpkins, pumpkin with designs like monograms and stripes – there are endless ways to make something unique your guests will love having on display the whole season.
How To Decorate
Great for showing off your personal style, create a few pumpkin creations ahead of time to decorate your home for the gathering. Big and bumpy, small and squat – there are so many ways to create a unique display. Pumpkins come in fantastic colors and varieties.
Paint the front of a large pumpkin with some chalkboard paint and write "Welcome" for your porch. Use this technique on several pumpkins to help designate space like "Snacks" or "Decorating Supplies." You can include "Pumpkin Party!" for a cool centerpiece. After the gathering, you can change the messages to fit your decor.
What To Serve
Everyone will have their hands full while making their pumpkin masterpiece, so serve something easy to grab. Lots of hot coffee gives some energy to the group while homemade muffins like banana nut (or pumpkin!) are sweet, savory and filling all at once.
Short on time? Or want something extra special? Buy breads and muffins at your local bakery then pop them back in the oven to give them a warm bite and send intoxicating scents through your house. Serve with real butter for a cozy treat. There won't be a crumb left!

Your Easy Livin' Summer Cocktail Party
Cocktail parties are such a great adult theme choice because everyone likes to try new drinks. And by making the event a drop-in, there are no worries about guests arriving late and missing out. So get your Mad Men on and break out the barware.
Chill Time Party Prep
Send your invites at least a week ahead of time. Because this is a no-fuss party that doesn't require special attire or gifts, now is the perfect chance to lure out all those friends you haven't seen in awhile. And you'll hear few excuses because who doesn't want to chill out on a summer night?
Whether hosting inside or out, make sure you have plenty of seating so everyone has a chance to relax. If you are outdoors, this is the perfect time to hang your hammock and light some tiki torches. For decorations, keep it simple. Choose your favorite bright colors and show them off with some coordinated party supplies. An eye-catching tablecloth becomes the backdrop to your bar set-up. Create some balloon bunches to hang for some added whimsy. If you want a more natural look, try a beautiful fresh flower centerpiece from your local florist.
Warm Weather Appetizers and Snacks
It's hot out so keeping the food simple and the drinks cold is a great plan. Fresh fruit displayed in a fun way is both refreshing and decorative. We love all these examples that mix summer favorites like watermelon, pineapple, strawberries, kiwi and cantaloupe. Using mini terracotta pots for veggies and dip are as cute as can be. Plus, it frees up your guests to grab and go mingle. Opting for some healthy salsa and festive blue corn tortilla chips help keep things on the light side. Don't forget that a pickle and olive tray works great for snacking and garnishing drinks.
Relax With Easy Cocktails
These make-ahead drinks are incredibly refreshing and look so pretty chilling in a tub of ice. You will enjoy compliment after compliment without ever having to play bartender during the party! Place colorful straws and a bowl next to the ice bucket so guests have a place to put the metal lids after opening their own individual serving of spiked lemonade. Might want to make more than one batch. They will go fast!
