A Cultural Affair – Tips on Planning a Culturally Mixed Wedding

If you are planning a mixed cultural wedding there are several things you need to consider. Embrace both cultures to create a beautiful and unique wedding.

A Beautiful Ceremony

Most wedding traditions are based on religion, culture, heritage, and race. When you are cutting and pasting together a wedding, you need to decide which traditions mean the most to you and your fiancé as well, as your families.

Your family's opinions and vision of your wedding might create obstacles, especially if they are the ones paying for it! Creating a wedding that respects both family's religions and cultures can be done and be absolutely beautiful.

The first thing you need to do, before even thinking about the revenue, date or theme, is sit down and talk with you fiancé about which traditions are the most important to you. Being open with each other about what you want included and what can be left out will make things a lot easier.

The next step is to sit down with both of your families, preferably at separate times. Ask them for advice and let them know that you want to respect and honor the family traditions, but need to make this ceremony a fusion of both.

Although every couple is different and you want your wedding to be unique, you also want your wedding to show your personality and your heritage. Here are a few tips to help you along the way.

One of the most common solutions for a mixed wedding is to have two separate ceremonies. However, when finances wont allow for two ceremonies, you need to be creative and find a way to mesh both cultures into one ceremony.

Invitations: Send out two sets of invitations. One in each language so that no one feels left out.
Location: If your religions clash, consider holding the ceremony in a non-religious venue. A park, a hall, a ballroom, a country or garden club are great options.
Programs: Two sets of programs, in the same style and theme but one in each language. You can even personalize them with a small note to your family in your native language on near the bottom.
Music: Alternate music throughout the ceremony from each culture. Sticking with instrumentals will make the transition from song to song smooth.
Readings: Alternate the readings from one language to the next. You don't want to do every reading in both languages because it will make your ceremony too long.
Vows: Recite vows in your native language, so that both set of parents and families understand completely.
Reception: Take care when arranging the seating, making sure that everyone is sitting with someone they can communicate with. (You don't want your Aunt Evelyn sitting at a table of non-English speaking guests).
Decor: Your set up should show both cultures. Including flowers, lighting and even positioning of the tables. Creating centerpieces with flowers and candles that represent both your heritages will make your families feel at home.

Give opportunity for everyone to mesh and mingle. The dance floor is the perfect opportunity for this! Again, you will want to alternate music from each culture to keep your guests happy and involved.

Menu: Finding the perfect food for everyone is a difficult task. However, you can arrange your buffets to have two separate stations catering to both cultures. Or if you are using a menu, have options designed around both cultures. Find a caterer in your area to help you design the perfect pallet for your reception.

Remember, your wedding is about you and your spouse. It is the beginning of a new and happy adventure that will take you places you have never been. Make sure to merge your style, character and personality as well as your spouse's! With a little planning and creativity your wedding will be beautiful, unique and respectful to both of your heritages.

Fun July Facts

July is the seventh month of the year and one of the seven months that has 31 days in it. It is considerably the warmest month in the Northern hemisphere and the coldest month in the Southern hemisphere. This month was once called Quitilis since it was the fifth month in the Roman calendar.

Birthstone & Flowers

The birthstone for July is the gorgeous ruby. It's a blood-red colored gem stone which is caused by the presence of chromium. They are simply stunning and would be a great color to merge into any party.

For July's flower, there are actually two; the larkspur or water-lily. Larkspur is a gorgeous purple flowers, while the water-lily features various colors. Use the larkspur in centerpieces, as well as the water-lily. Fill a vase with water and let the water-lily float in it. These would both make great accents to a party and the colors are vibrant and will go with anything.

July's Astrology

Cancer, Leo and Gemini all represent the astrology signs for July. Cancer personalities tend to be emotional, intuitive, cautious, protective, moody, over emotional and clinging. 4th Of July Celebration

Your Fourth of July party this year should be a family affair. This holiday is about celebrating freedom and sharing it with close family and friends. It's an important holiday and definitely one you want to share with everyone. However, how do you make this holiday fun for everyone? You want to host a party that is unique and stands out from everyone else. Well, Wedding And Party Network has some 4th of July party ideas that will get you started. Everyone will want to come to your house.

The Setup

Fourth Of July Fun

Party Decorations – Your party decorations will be red, white and blue. It has to be patriotic for 4th of July! However, it doesn't have to be over-the-top with decorations.

First off, start by decorating the tables. Place red, white and blue tablecloths on each one followed with a table runner. Mix the colors to create a patriotic theme. Once that is done, move on to the centerpieces.

Get sand buckets and fill them with white daisies or actually pour sand in them and stick sparklers and fireworks into each one to create unique table centerpieces. You can even sprinkle some glitter on the tables as accents as well.

If you want to hang decor from the trees, string lights and paper lanterns all around the back yard. Also, stick cute pinwheels in the ground and drink holders that you can stick in the yard. Also, place different markers in the yard to let guests know what will be happening in that particular spot. Section off part of your yard for games, seating, eating and fireworks.

Red, White & Blue Party Food

When thinking of what to prepare, think barbeque with a twist. Grill hamburgers, hot dogs, ribs, grilled shrimp and pair it with the usual potato salad and chips to make great outdoor grilling food. Now, create a condiments table. Place cheese, mustard, ketchup, onions, relish, pickles and jalapenos on the condiments table. Make sure and put them in adorable jars and tie a red, white or blue ribbon around each one to add to the party.

Now onto snacks that can be eaten throughout the day. Make sure and place out fruit, vegetables and snacks that are easy to grab and eat on the go. However, display them in fun ways. Create a watermelon split! Cut bananas in half for the bottom and use an ice cream scoop to scoop out some watermelon so it replicates ice cream and then top it with some whipped cream. Fruit kabobs, blue corn tortilla with salsa and your favorite appetizers will be great party food to set out for everyone.

Fireworks

Desserts are going to be the main focal point. You can create a sheet cake and then place blueberries and raspberries on top to represent a flag. Also, create cupcakes. They are easy to carry around you can easily pop them in your mouth.

Hamburger cupcakes paired with corn cupcakes makes something fun for dessert or create Lady Liberty cupcakes, which feature a green ice cream cone, cake mix and sugar wafers that are dyed orange and red for the flame.

Dip strawberries in white chocolate and cover with blue sprinkles for a pleasant treat. Don't forget the ice cream. July is a hot month so it's nice to cool off a bit with some ice cream sandwiches or popsicles.

Games & Activities

4th Of July is normally celebrated all throughout the day. Therefore, you need to keep everyone entertained all throughout the day. So, setup different stations. Set up an arts and craft station where the kids can create flags or their own rockets. Face painting, relay games and fireworks should all have their own stations set up.

Another fun thing to do is to have your own firework competition. Put together teams and give them a variety of fireworks. They can create their own shows for the night and the best one wins. Everyone loves a little friendly competition.

When planning your Fourth Of July celebration, plan for it to be an all day affair. Decorate with red, white and blue and think outside the box. Most importantly, remember what the holiday stands for and share it with close friends and family.

Inspirational Friday – Wedding Centerpieces

Every Friday, Wedding and Party Network will be choosing a theme or color and give you inspirational photos. We want to help give you inspiration for your next event, wedding or party. Reception centerpieces are the main attraction at your guest's tables. Therefore, they should absolutely represent your wedding.

Your reception centerpieces stand out on the tables. They represent wedding colors, style and give off fragrance. So, you want them to fit your wedding. First, imagine how you want your flowers to look like. What style does your wedding represent? You need to figure out this before determining your design. Once you have a vision, explain it to your florist and they will achieve it. Create simple, tall, unique, out-of-the-box or use a single flower for your centerpieces. You can place one, several and surround them by candles. Use your imagination and make sure they stand out to wow your guests.

Summer S'more Recipes

Warm summer nights and bonfires go hand in hand. Bringing families and friends together to share fond memories and fill up on yummy S'mores sounds perfect! Who can resist the warm deliciousness of a good S'more? With two graham crackers cradling a toasted marshmallow & succulent chocolate, OOO they make your taste buds happy!

S'mores are not only for bonfires! S'mores and S"more inspired desserts are a great party food for any occasion.

Here are some creative ways to spice up your S'mores and bring them to the dinner table!

S'mores!

Peanut Butter S'mores: Use chocolate chip cookies instead of graham crackers. Spread a little peanut butter on the cookies, sprinkle chocolate chips and then add your toasted your marshmallow for a mouth full of deliciousness! OR you can use peanut butter cups instead!

Caramel S'mores: My favorite! The same original recipe only use a caramel bar (Carmelo) instead of a regular chocolate bar for some ooey gooey goodness.

Nutella S'mores: Take two graham crackers and spread Nutella on both pieces, add a few slices of banana and then your warm toasted marshmallow!

S'more Muffins: Using your favorite chocolate chip muffin recipe, add broken graham crackers, mini marshmallows and chocolate chunks to create delicious s'more muffins.

S'more Cookies: Mix up your favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe and add mini marshmallows, chocolate chunks and graham cracker pieces. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!

S'more Brownies: Use chocolate brownie mix, adding mini marshmallows and graham cracker pieces.

For added flare you can add fresh strawberries, raspberries or coconut for a delectable elegance! Use your imagination and your favorite ingredients to create your own unique flavors.

Movie Inspired Wedding

When planning a wedding, you can find inspiration anywhere. From nature, the world, colors or your favorite hobbies, these are all places on where you can draw wedding inspiration. You can even draw inspiration from your favorite movies. It's out there, everywhere you look. The most important thing when planning your wedding is to make sure and incorporate YOU. It's your wedding after all and you want it to be just how you've always dreamed.

How Do I Incorporate Movies Into Our Wedding?

Beautiful Wedding Details

First off, sit down and start brainstorming. What is your favorite movie? What time era was it set in? What style does in portray throughout the movie? What is your personal style? These are all questions you need to ask yourself in the very beginning. Once you have figured out the style and theme you are going with, start deciding the basics. What type of colors, flowers and accents will you have at your wedding?

Wedding Colors – Incorporate your favorite colors. It's that simple. The theme of your wedding can go and all the little accents can work with whatever colors you choose.

Wedding Invitations –This is where you can get creative. Whether your wedding is out-of-the-box or more elegant, there are wedding invitations out there to suit both styles. For starters, your wedding invitation should replicate a movie ticket.

A movie ticket will definitely fit the theme of this wedding. You can even visit your local stationery store or find someone who is crafty and actually do a tear-off ticket. You can have a movie ticket that features individual tear offs with the reception information, hotel accommodations and the RSVP card. Guests can then tear off the RSVP card at the perforated edge and send it back! Absolutely adorable idea and definitely conveys the theme of your wedding from the beginning.

Wedding Flowers & Decor –If they feature flowers in the film, use those. Is your movie inspired wedding bright & colorful? Well, incorporate that into your wedding bouquet and decor. Is your favorite movie in black & white? Well, make black and white the theme of your wedding and incorporate that into all the little details. Place fun movie accents throughout your wedding. Have a movie poster created with your engagement pictures.

Include the wedding party in the movie poster as well and give it a fun movie title! If you're movie is set in a certain time era, play it up. Everything from your table numbers to your guest book can be movie inspired. Create tickets or miniature movie poster as table numbers and use a typewriter as a guest book, both of these ideas make unique additions to your wedding. Use candelabras for your reception centerpieces or even balloons!

Wedding Ceremony

Wedding Attire – This will depend on the theme and time era your movie was set in.

Reception Food –Again, stick with the theme and era. However, get creative and think outside-the-box when it comes to your food. Vintage soda pop bottles with colorful straws, a popcorn bar featuring different flavors of popcorn, popcorn cupcakes or a memorable food item from the movie all will make wonderful reception food!

It's easy to find inspiration for your wedding through your favorite movie. It's a fun way to incorporate your personal style into it. Everyone loves a great movie now and then, so incorporating your favorite movie into your wedding is a fun way to show off your style. Your movie can be a timeless classic, circus inspired, cartoon inspired or even sci-fi inspired. Just be sure to show off you and your groom's personality throughout your wedding!

10 Simple Steps For A Great Summer Party!

Planning a great summer party takes time, strategy, creativity and imagination! You want your party fun, light and upbeat. So, first things first!

1.) Plan your Budget: The first step to planning a great party is to plan your budget. Set aside the maximum amount you want to spend and don't go over!

2.) Guest List: When creating your guest list, you have to decide how elaborate or simple your party will be. Is this an event for close friends and family only? Or one that will include extended friends and family?

Break your list into three groups : Those who should be invited, those who you would like to invite and those who might be invited.

3.) What's the Theme?: Summer parties call for the outdoors! Do you want a casual or formal event – upscale atmosphere? Chose a party theme that your guest will enjoy; a beach party, a Hawaiian tiki party, a pool party, block party or a back yard BBQ.

4.) Location: Party Location is key! It has to work well with your theme, and it plays a direct role in the size and budget of the party. Choose a place that suits you and your vision. A great park, beach, pool or your own back yard!

Summer Party Food

5.) Adequate Seating: You want your guests moving, mixing and having fun throughout the party, so make sure you have plenty of seating available.

Arranging chairs in small groups all around the party area will help to keep people mingling and socializing with each other.

6.) Menu: For fun in the sun, bring out your grill! BBQ is the traditional summer cuisine. However, you don't have to do the typical BBQ, you can have your party catered with Hawaiian themed foods, surf and turf or a great buffet of fresh finger foods.

Keep plenty of refreshments on hand, the warm weather always calls for a cold lemonade, iced tea or spritzer.
