August is the 8th month of the year and is one of the seven months that has 31 days in it. It’s name, originally Sextillis in Latin. Julius Caesar added two days to the Julian calendar and renamed it in honor of Augustus.

The birthstone for August is peridot or onyx. The peridot is one of the few gemstones that occurs only in one color, which is green. Intensity and tint of green depends on how much iron is contained in the crystal structure. So, the color can range from yellow, olive to brownish green. Onxy is banded variety of chalcedony. Colors of the band range from white to almost every color.
