Engagement Parties 101
Hosting an engagement party can be a rewarding experience. Most happy couples are thrilled and ready to celebrate! This is not simply a bridal shower, but a party that announces their future life together. Invitations, decorations, food, the venue, and entertainment must be considered in your planning.
The Details
The couple of honor needs to first provide a guest list. Find out what type of party would they enjoy. Use them as a springboard for ideas when considering the theme, size, and formality of the event. Food may be casual or formal, dictated by the theme and the budget. Flowers add beauty and depth to any room, and depending on a color scheme or particular season, will help accentuate any area.
Fall in Love This Fall
When the summer heat becomes unbearable, we start to focus on the next big thing: Fall. In the South, we are in the edge of our seats. It always seems to creep slowly on us and it doesn’t stay for long. So, fall is more than cooler weather, it is Halloween, hot apple cider, campfires, pies, pumpkins, corn mazes, fairs and fall apparel. It’s a time to celebrate a new school year, football, and the beginning of a new chapter. Fall is the season to fall in love.
I met the love of my life at a bonfire on October 2 years ago and I have always been in love with the crisp cool feeling of fall. Though I love every season, it ranks high on my list. However, when I was helping one of my best friend’s boyfriend find ways to pop the question, I fell blank. For those gentlemen who are searching the internet for a perfect way to propose in the near future. Look no further. Here are a few ideas I came up with to help the search and ease the process.
If your girl loves fall like I do, there are plenty of simple and elaborate ways to pop the question. Whichever way you decide to propose, here are cute ideas to get creative:
- Pumpkin Patch – Fall isn’t fall without pumpkins. If you are preparing to pop the question, simply talk to your local pumpkin patch owner to discuss the arrangement. Then take your girl on a surprise pumpkin patch date. Say it’s all about carving pumpkins and have her pick out a pumpkin. Offer to carry the pumpkin for her, because a girl shouldn’t have to carry the dirty thing around. At the end of the date, have the owner take a picture of the happy couple with their “Prize” pumpkin. Then watch the surprise come to her face as she sees the extra shine coming from the engagement ring you slipped onto the stem of the pumpkin with yarn.
- Pumpkin Carvings – Have a group of friends come over for a pumpkin carving contest. This contest has to be secret until the revelation of the pumpkins at the end for “more fun”. Discuss beforehand to have each friend carve out a word of the phrase, “Name, will you marry me?” When everyone is done, simply announce to turn the pumpkins around.
- Bonfire Date – Bonfires are always fun and full of warmth. This time, surprise your girl with a private bonfire. Bring warm apple cider in a thermos and let your mind say the rest. This is a great way to be romantic and private at the same time.
- Fall Leaves – Fall leaves make for a great playful date. Who doesn’t love playing in the crisp air and bouncing through piles of leaves? This girl does and I know that has to appeal to tons of girls who are playful and love the outdoors. After playing in the season’s clouds, let the leaves settle and tell her you would simply love to do this the rest of your life. The rest is history.
Any time of year is great time to take the next step with one you love the most, but don’t let this season fly by. The warmth of the food, the crisp air and fall colors make for one appealing atmosphere. Take the plunge and enjoy the rest.
Tips For Your Engagement Pictures
One of the first steps you take when planning your wedding is taking engagement pictures. These are used for so many different things throughout the wedding process. They are fun to take and a great starting off point for the wedding. When planning your engagement pictures, you want them to show off your personality and style, especially since they are used for save the dates, bridal showers and displayed throughout your wedding reception. So, Wedding and Party Network are bringing you some themes and tips for your engagement pictures.
Choosing The Right Wedding Photographer
Every wedding or engagement photographer has their own signature style. Not everyone takes pictures the exact same way, so it's important to take a look at their previous clients to see if that's what you are wanting for your photos. You also want to be comfortable with your engagement photographer since you are going to be working with them closely for a few hours and even your wedding. Someone who will listen, gives good directions and will offer great ideas and tips. Research is key when searching for an engagement photographer.
Pick Out A Few Photo Themes
Once you have chosen your engagement photographer, decide where, when and themes that you want for your photos. Either choose outdoor, indoor locations or a special place this is meaningful to you. There are so many unique places to choose from, so find out that fits you. Also, choose a season. Fall, winter, spring or summer offer different pros and cons. Pick the season that is best suited for your time frame and style. Also, find fun themes that incorporate your love of something into your photos. This definitely shows off your fun personality. Here are some examples:
- Movie Inspired
- Classic/Vintage
- Adventure Inspired
- Super Heroes
What To Wear
Here comes to important part for the bride. What do you wear? You don't want to regret your outfit later. Make sure and pick outfits that you won't regret wearing later on. Keep it classic, yet to your style. Also, keep in mind neutral colors. You should do an engagement portrait that is fun and also do one that is classic that will never go out of style.
How To Pose
Along with any type of picture are poses. Not everyone is a natural at posing or knows how to do so. The best way to figure out what you want to do is to research and trust in your engagement photographer.
Search different wedding blogs or check out your friend's engagement pictures to see what you like and what you don't like. Also, rely on your photographer for great suggestions. They know what angles look good.Don't Forget The Props
Engagement photos are all about bringing out your personality. So, make sure you bring props with you to achieve that. If you're going with a themed engagement shoot, don't forget the props that go with it.
A vintage inspired engagement shoot isn't complete without vintage inspired luggage or a lace umbrella and a movie inspired photo shoot isn't complete without popcorn.
Engagement portraits are the time to show off your personality and have fun. You'll use these for for everything and cherish them for a lifetime.

Proposals Based On Personality
Are you thinking about proposing? If you are, you already know that you want to find the perfect proposal idea. You want to share your story with family and friends and get that "awww" response. The proposal should represent you as a couple. However, how do you even propose and live up to the expectation that it should be perfect? Base it on your relationship and the personality to capture you as a couple. Wedding and Party Network has some proposal tips that will help you plan the ideal proposal.
Food Lovers – If you guys are food connoisseurs, there are great ways to incorporate this into your wedding proposal. Of course, you can take her to your favorite restaurant or the restaurant where you shared your very first date. However, take it up a notch by having the chef display the ring if the middle of desserts or appetizers and write, "Will you marry me?" in the center of it all.
Plan a whole day out and about, beforehand, contact your local bakery and ask them to create a cake for the occasion with that and the ring displayed in the front window. So, at the end of the day, suggest getting a sweet treat to end the day and there she will see it. You can also plan it indoors and create a gift basket with the finest foods or your favorite and place the ring inside of it. Each are very sweet, and if you guys enjoy food, then these are perfect!
Tech Savvy – Maybe you both enjoy staying on trend with the latest technologies. Therefore, incorporate this into your proposal. Create a personalized podcast, upload a proposal video on YouTube, take her digital camera and take separate pictures for will, you, marry and me, create a text message scavenger hunt or create your on computer game or even web page that displays in detail your relationship, how much you love her and of course, asking her to marry you.
One For The Dramatics – Do you both enjoy being the center of attention or just living in the moment and going all out within everything you do? Plan a public proposal. If you are both theater lovers, get in contact with the stage manager and ask if you could propose during curtain call. Create a full-page newspaper add, create a flash mob proposal, propose on or in an airport/airplane or just go to your favorite location and propose.
Take It Indoors – However, maybe you guys enjoy spending time together and indoors. You're more low-key. Plan the perfect proposal at her home. Slip the ring on her finger while she's sleeping, plan a scavenger hunt around the house or make it one big surprise when she gets home from work.
Entertainment Lovers – Are you around the television around a certain time waiting for a show to come on or being the first in line to check out the latest movie? Plan a proposal at the movie theaters. Movies have ads now that are played before the movie starts that businesses can purchase, so propose to her with a movie ad. You can even place the ring in the popcorn tub. Whatever you like, a proposal at the movies is great for the entertainment lover.
There are so many ideas out there to use when you propose, you just have to think outside-the-box and make sure it fits their personality. Your definitely guaranteed a yes!
