May is the 5th month of year and one of the 7 months that has 31 days in it. The month of May was named for the Greek goddess, Maia. However, Roman poet Ovid says that May was named for the maiores, which is Latin for “elders”. Which seems fitting since they say June is named for iuniores, or “young people”.
Birthstone & Flowers
For May, it’s birthstone represents the Emerald and the flowers are the lily of the valley. Emeralds are so beautiful and have an amazing deep green tint to it with a rectangular cut. If you are throwing a party, make that your color. However, if you want to incorporate those flowers into your party, set them out as part of your centerpieces. Both are so beautiful and will do wonders as a party accent.
