The beginning of the new year signifies many things. For some people, it’s symbolic of a fresh start. For others, it’s time to set new goals to work toward throughout the year. Whatever the meaning is to you, start the year with those you love most, because it’s time to start party planning! As you brainstorm different ideas for your big bash, consider some of these exciting, unique ideas to add a twist to your fun evening.
Through the Decades
Since 2020 signifies the arrival of a new decade, throw a decade-themed party! Invite everyone to dress up in a costume from their favorite decade. For the playlist, pick at least three famous songs from each decade ranging back to the ‘50s. As for activities, set up a trivia game with different categories, such as pop culture, sports, history, etc. Set up tables themed around the decades with decor to match. Each table will compete as a team, and at the end of the night, that decade will be dubbed the best decade of all time! Conclude your evening by counting down to midnight and welcoming the 2020s!
Back to the Future
Invite guests to dress like they’re from the future! Decorate with black and metallic streamers and balloons. Kick off the night by having each guest make a prediction about the next decade. Set up a station that includes slips of paper, pens, and a box for them to deposit their answers. After an hour, read each prediction aloud for your guests. You can also request that your guests bring some kind of memento from the decade to put into a time capsule. Right before you ring in the new year, have everyone share their item and explain why they brought it. Once midnight hits, make sure to say a toast for good luck!
A Night in New York
If you want more of a classic party, this one is for you. Host a fun night with dancing, drinks, and a photo booth! For decorations, you can keep it classic with black and gold confetti, white lights, and party poppers. Set up random fun facts about the 2010s throughout the room to commemorate the end of a decade! Reserve one wall as the photo booth with a fun backdrop and have props out for your guests to utilize as they pose for their photos. Fifteen minutes before midnight, make sure to gather everyone up and distribute champagne flutes to every guest. Have the ball drop on TV, and when it’s time, toast in the new year together!
Celebrating the new year is always exciting, and the best way to salute the holiday is with family and friends! Whether you decide to do a uniquely themed party or keep it classic, we’re sure it will be a night to remember.
